Meet Lee Robinson of Blue Flame in Norcross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Robinson.

Lee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey began soon after graduation from college. With a degree in Architecture, I went to work for the company that designed and built Coca-Cola’s pavilion at the Calgary Winter Olympics. You know, the games with Eddie the Eagle and the Jamaican Bobsled Team. It was a life altering experience as I realized that working on events is much more creative and exciting than working on conventional architecture. I was hooked. I landed in Atlanta for the ‘96 Games and although I went on to work seven Olympic Games, Atlanta remained my home base. While working on the Salt Lake City games, I met Treva Cooke, who was just beginning her journey as Co-Founder of Blue Flame, an Experiential Marketing Agency. We went on to collaborate on a variety of different projects over the years and in 2012, I joined Blue Flame full-time to build a production team and establish the Atlanta Blue Flame office. Our vision was to focus on the individual consumer journey in an extremely curated and customized manner. Although there were initially some skeptics in the industry, it’s turned into a huge success, and one that has catapulted Blue Flame into the arms of large Fortune 100 clients.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like any business there are certainly struggles along the way but the ones that flourish are the ones that learn and can grow from them. The biggest hurdle I’ve had to overcome is that all of the Olympic work I was doing evaporated overnight. The Coca Cola Company decided to move their sponsorship from their headquarters in Atlanta, to the Games next host city. This forced me to reinvent my business and invest in a broader skill set which ultimately led me to Blue Flame.

I’m now developing events with client’s showcasing technology that literally helps solve some of the world’s biggest problems. I mean everything from combating terrorism to advancing medical innovations, to devices that make people’s day to day lives easier. It’s these aspirations and forward-thinking that energizes me every day.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

Do you feel like our city is a good place for businesses like yours?
Atlanta is a great city to live, work and play in! With our mild winters, dynamic sports culture and a deep, rich heritage, Atlanta has something for everyone and embraces all who call it home. The emerging tech industry, top notch universities and many Fortune 500 Companies, keep Atlanta thriving. Despite our crazy traffic, Atlanta is very user-friendly with Hartsfield-Jackson Airport easily accessible from just about anywhere. The cost of living is relatively low compared to other large North American cities and it’s a great place to raise a family. I feel the biggest thing Atlanta needs to do to improve is build a comprehensive public transit system that relieves the traffic congestion. As a native of Canada, it was my work with Coca-Cola and the Olympic Games that brought me to Atlanta but it’s the city’s vibrancy and opportunities that made me stay.
