Hi Lexis Raé, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into event planning began long before I ever considered it a career. As a child growing up in Queens, New York, in a close-knit Caribbean household, shaped by my Trinidadian and Haitian roots, I was surrounded by celebration, community, and intention. My grandma had a gift for hosting. She brought people together in a way that felt effortless yet deeply meaningful.

What stayed with me most wasn’t just the gatherings themselves, but the care behind them, the thoughtful preparation, the attention to detail, and the joy that came from creating an experience for others. I found myself drawn to every part of the process, from the quiet moments of preparation to the final reveal, where everything came together and the room filled with genuine joy.

As I grew older, that passion naturally evolved into planning events of my own. What began as small gatherings became baby showers, weddings, surprise proposals, and even large-scale events such as orientations and conferences. Along the way, people consistently encouraged me to pursue event planning professionally. It was in those moments that I realized this was more than something I enjoyed; it was a gift I was meant to share.

After a season of prayer and reflection, God called me to take that next step, which led me to found Harmony Manifested. The name reflects both my faith and my purpose: bringing vision, intention, and excellence into harmony to create unforgettable experiences.

Today, what fulfills me most is transforming my clients’ visions into something tangible, often exceeding what they ever imagined. There’s nothing more rewarding than witnessing those emotional, once-in-a-lifetime moments, the smiles, the joy, even the tears, and knowing I had a hand in creating a memory that will last forever.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While the journey hasn’t always been seamless, it has been incredibly rewarding and deeply formative. Each step has presented me with an opportunity to grow, not only as a creative but as a business owner.

Although I hold an MBA, I quickly learned that building and running a business in real time brings a different level of complexity. My academic background provided a strong foundation, but there were still invaluable lessons to learn, from implementing efficient systems and navigating event planning software to understanding business credit and scaling operations.

One of the more unexpected challenges came with growth. As demand increased, I began investing in inventory to better serve my clients, and before long, I had transformed a full room in my home into a dedicated storage space. It was a clear sign that my business was evolving, and it pushed me to become more strategic and intentional about operations.

Marketing was another area that required growth. Social media marketing did not come naturally to me at first, and I initially underestimated its impact. However, I’ve come to understand that while word of mouth remains powerful, a strong digital presence is essential, especially in an industry as visual and experience-driven as event planning.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s the importance of building strong systems, cultivating meaningful vendor relationships, and staying connected within your local community. Those relationships with venues, florists, caterers, and photographers are the backbone of executing exceptional events.

Every challenge has refined my process and strengthened my approach, and I’m grateful for the growth that continues to shape both my business and my vision.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was naturally outgoing, expressive, and deeply observant. I’ve always been someone who paid attention to the details, watching, learning, and understanding how things come together behind the scenes.

My upbringing was rich in culture, family, and celebration. With my Trinidadian and Haitian background, there was always a reason to gather, to celebrate, and to appreciate life’s moments both big and small. Those experiences shaped my perspective and instilled in me a deep appreciation for connection and intentionality.

From an early age, I was also highly organized and detail-oriented. I took pride in creating order; everything had its place, and I found joy in making spaces feel complete and thoughtfully arranged. I was always eager to help, especially when it came to organizing family events, such as birthday parties, graduations, or even backyard gatherings in South Ozone Park, which further nurtured my natural inclination toward event planning.

When I reflect on my childhood, I see clearly how those experiences, along with the love and care shown by my mom and grandparents, have shaped the woman I am today. Their legacy of bringing people together with intention and love is something I carry with me in every event I plan.

Although they are no longer here, I believe their influence lives on through my work. In many ways, Harmony Manifested is a continuation of that legacy, creating spaces where people can gather, celebrate, and create meaningful, lasting memories.
