Meet Lindsey Luna Tucker in West Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Luna Tucker.

Lindsey, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story with art began in a drawing and painting class I took as a sophomore in high school. It was during that class that I began to discover what it is to truly see something. Granted, this seeing isn’t something you can learn all at once; it is a process of discovery that will continue throughout my lifetime. But it was in that class where I experienced a spark of curiosity that I have followed ever since. Although I did enter college right after high school, I did not end up finishing my degree until many years later. I’m grateful for the places life lead me during those years because it was then that I found hiking and my deep appreciation for the earth.

I received my BFA in Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking at Georgia State University in 2017. In the years since I have been working as an artist. I am grateful to be a fine artist because it allows me to combine my curiosity for seeing and my love of the earth into paintings that bring light and space into people’s homes.

Today I paint out of my studio in West Midtown. I gather inspiration from my hiking explorations in Northern Georgia and wherever I happen to be traveling in any given year.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the greatest obstacles I have experienced as a working artist is facing and dealing with my own thoughts. The way we think has so much power in determining what actions we take and thus many of our results. I have found that it is important for me to slow down in order to speed up. My version of slowing down has included becoming aware and honest about the thoughts I have about myself and my business. This practice sounds much easier said than done. It takes patience and consistency to change thoughts in order to get the results I want. It is always a work in progress and is something I have come to enjoy.

Rejection is another obstacle that was particularly difficult for me to face when I was fresh out of school. It’s not to say that I enjoy rejection now, per se, but it certainly doesn’t affect me as it did. Being a business owner and a creative means that sometimes I get rejected. That’s completely normal and doesn’t mean anything about me personally. In fact, it just allows me the great opportunity to learn, grow, and improve.

What should we know about your work? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I paint mostly abstract landscape oil paintings. Although as an artist, I can’t be tethered, so I regularly dabble in other subjects, but landscape paintings are where my heart is.

My clients often commission paintings of landscapes that are special to them. I love these projects because it allows me an opportunity to experience a place through someone else’s eyes and mind. I get to put myself in their shoes and depict a landscape I may not have experienced yet in person. I spend time with my clients before beginning a painting to get the exact mood, color, and feeling of a location right. The entire process of commission painting so rewarding.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is defined by how well I show up on a daily basis in my business. There are certainly larger successes I aim for, but consistent success day to day help me to get to those bigger grander places.

I ask myself questions like, “Did I show up to that painting session with love and attention?” “Am I fully present in this task?” ‘Did I give it everything I’ve got?” “Am I sharing meaningful stories and messages with my audience?”. I certainly can’t answer positively to those questions all of the time, but when I can, I feel successful in my business.
