Meet Lisa Mitchell of EUTR, LLC, Everything Under The Rainbow Foundation, Horizons Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Mitchell.

Hi Lisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Everything Under The Rainbow began with a prayer, $200, and a dream. It was born out of a deep desire to create positive paths for children who learn differently and who need peace on their journey. At a time when so many children’s voices were not being heard, and so many families felt unseen as well, I felt called to create something different — a safe, loving, nurturing environment where children could be supported academically, emotionally, and socially, and where they could truly know their worth.

Only ten days after I began searching, I found a small pastorium space that was rented to me for just $25 a month. With the help of a friend who supported me with website design, I took those first steps forward. We advertised very little and were blessed with 10 families right out of the gate. From there, Everything Under The Rainbow began to grow.

What prepared me for this journey was both personal and professional. As a parent, I have raised two beautiful children whose lives taught me more than almost anything else ever could. Their journeys opened my eyes to what children and families truly need in order to feel supported, seen, and successful. Professionally, I have worked in special education, advocacy, mental health, rehabilitation, youth organizations, Head Start, leadership in care settings, resource management, educational and classroom supports, social work, educational workshops, and educational support. Personally and professionally, I understand what it means to fight for children whose voices are often overlooked or misunderstood.

My children are the why behind EUTR, and my sweet grandson is part of the heart and dedication behind it. EUTR was not created from theory alone. It was born from lived experience, love, advocacy, grief, faith, and perseverance. My children’s journeys shaped the heart behind this work and helped me understand, in a very real way, what it means to keep believing in a child even when the world underestimates them. This mission is also deeply dedicated to my sweet grandson, whom we lost in March of 2024. His memory remains part of the heart behind this journey and part of the reason this work is so personal to me.

In the early years, we were primarily serving children with dyslexia, executive functioning struggles, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, Tourette’s, giftedness, mild autism, and children who had simply been overlooked or misunderstood because of how they learn. I had seen too many children being forced into systems that did not fit them, and too many families feeling exhausted because their voices were falling on deaf ears. I had walked that road myself, both personally and professionally, and I knew there had to be another way.

I wanted to create a place where children could fall in love with learning again, where they would be met with understanding instead of frustration, and where education could feel more like home than pressure. Over time, we have continued to grow. We have moved through changes and challenges, and we are still building. We have added more programs, more days, more ages served, more staff, and more support for families along the way.

Today, EUTR is a small, relationship-driven learning environment serving children and teens who need more individualized academic, emotional, and social support. We continue to grow our offerings while staying grounded in the original vision: to serve our community with love, faith, dialogue, and purpose.

What I am most proud of is that we have helped create peace in education for many learners and families. We have worked to create a space where students know their voice matters, where they can build confidence, learn boundaries and coping skills, and begin to see themselves differently. One student shared, “When I come to school, it feels like home.” Another shared, “I have friends here at school. I have learned how to write.” Those moments mean everything to me, because they remind me exactly why this work began.

Our story today is still one of continued growth. We hope to keep expanding our programs, strengthen community connections, increase enrollment, pursue accreditation, and create more scholarship opportunities for students and families. But at the center of it all, the heart remains the same: to create a place where children are seen, supported, and reminded that they are worth it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road, but it has been a meaningful one.

Like many mission-driven journeys, Everything Under The Rainbow has come with its share of struggles, growing pains, and uncertainty. Funding has been a challenge. Enrollment has always been a key factor in our ability to grow. Finding and maintaining the right space has also been difficult, especially because location and environment matter so much for the kind of calm, supportive learning setting we are trying to create.

We have also had to navigate change along the way, including moving more than once due to circumstances outside of our control. Building something from the ground up means carrying many responsibilities at once, and there have been moments of frustration, exhaustion, and wondering how to do all the things that need to be done in a single day.

Some of the hardest struggles were also deeply personal. During part of this journey, my family was walking through my son’s brain cancer and healing, while I was also continuing to support my daughter through her own growth, learning differences, and therapeutic supports as she worked toward higher levels of learning and independence. At the same time, we also walked through the precious 16-month life and heartbreaking loss of my sweet grandson. Those experiences stretched me in every direction, both personally and professionally, and there were moments when the weight of it all was incredibly heavy.

At the same time, those seasons also shaped me in profound ways. They deepened my faith, strengthened my resilience, and reminded me that giving up is not an option. They also reinforced why EUTR matters so much to me. This work has never been just about academics. It is about compassion, perseverance, hope, and creating a place where children and families feel seen, supported, and understood.

The road has not been easy, but it has been full of purpose. Every challenge has helped shape EUTR into a place of compassion, perseverance, and hope for children and families who need something different.

What should we know about your business or organization?
Everything Under The Rainbow Foundation, Inc, and EUTR, LLC, are built around the belief that education should be personal, purposeful, and relationship-based. We are a hybrid learning community in Woodstock, Georgia serving students from kindergarten through graduation in small, supportive cohorts. Our work is centered on meeting students where they are academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally, while helping them grow in confidence, capability, and connection.

What do you do?
We provide individualized academic support, hybrid learning programs, enrichment opportunities, and whole-child educational experiences for a wide range of learners. Our programs include core academics, reading and literacy support, writing, math, social development, executive functioning support, enrichment, life skills, and hands-on learning. We serve students who benefit from a smaller, more supportive, and more responsive learning environment, including neurotypical students, gifted learners, and students with mild to moderate learning challenges. Because we value appropriate placement and support, each student is considered individually to determine whether our environment is the right fit.

What do you specialize in / what are you known for?
We are especially known for our small cohort model, individualized instruction, and our ability to truly see and support each child as a whole person. We are also known for our literacy and academic intervention work, including Orton-Gillingham-based support, multisensory learning, and the DuBard Association Method, which is a distinctive part of our approach. Families often come to us because their child needs more than a one-size-fits-all setting and they are looking for a place where their child can be both supported and challenged.

What sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart is the depth of personalization and care within our program. We do not simply offer smaller class sizes. We intentionally create calm, engaging, age-appropriate learning environments where students are known, understood, and taught according to their strengths, needs, and learning styles. We value academic growth, but we also place a strong emphasis on emotional wellness, communication, social development, life readiness, and helping students build a sense of belonging. Our environment is designed to be both nurturing and meaningful.

What are you most proud of brand wise?
Brand wise, I am most proud that we have built something that is both deeply personal and deeply needed. Everything Under The Rainbow was created from a genuine desire to offer children and families something more supportive, more individualized, and more human. I am proud that our brand reflects inclusion, hope, literacy, creativity, resilience, and authentic connection. We are not just offering a program; we are building a place where students can grow, be understood, and thrive.

What do you want readers to know about your brand, offerings, services, and organization?
I want readers to know that our work goes beyond academics alone. We are creating an environment where children and teens can be seen clearly, taught well, and supported in ways that honor who they are. Our offerings are designed to help students strengthen academic skills, build confidence, develop socially and emotionally, and prepare for real life with greater success. At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to helping learners and families feel supported, understood, and empowered.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is, first and foremost, my relationship with God and my children. My children are my heart, and their lives, growth, accomplishments, and individual journeys bring me deep joy. Watching them overcome, heal, grow stronger, and step into who they are meant to be brings a kind of happiness that is hard to fully describe. They are part of my every breath.

I also find great happiness in helping others. There is something incredibly meaningful about watching another person move closer to their dreams, their healing, or their purpose. Whether it is a child growing academically, emotionally, or socially, or an adult finding strength and restoration in their own life, those moments bring me real joy. Seeing a child who once struggled begin to thrive, connect, and believe in themselves is one of the greatest gifts. Watching someone else succeed, whether in a big way or a small one, brings me happiness because growth is worth celebrating at every level.

I find happiness in simple, meaningful things too — watching children play and learn, old movies, old hymns like Because He Lives, and seeing someone receive a sobriety chip after working hard for their healing and freedom. Those moments carry joy, peace, and perspective.

I try to choose happiness every day. I believe happiness is a gift, but it is also a choice — one that often comes through hard work, healing, surrender, gratitude, and the grace of God. To me, happiness is not about pretending life is easy. It is about recognizing beauty, growth, redemption, and purpose even in the middle of life’s challenges.
