Meet Maiya Hicks of OhMaiBeauty in Clayton County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maiya Hicks.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Maiya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up my mother always stressed the care of our skin and appearance. As I grew older, I developed natural skills when it comes to makeup and just maintaining myself. Never did I think these skills would be the beginning of my beauty career. At the time I became interested in lash extensions, I was a full-time manager at Chick Fil A and a part-time student. Unhappy was an understatement; as I found myself searching for a career path, I felt spoke to me. Not only was I not happy in my job position but truthfully, I see no point in making someone else rich while I work for pennies at the best. My amazing husband (we were engaged at the time) recommending my taking a course- which I did! It’s been history ever since!

I have now been lashing for almost four years and I am currently enrolled in esthetician school! I take clients daily and I truly love those who have supported me and those who have uplifted me during my journey as a young entrepreneur. Lashes is my life and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I encourage more adolescents to look into entrepreneurship.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur has not been easy to say the least! Of course, I was blessed to have grown up in a household where everyone has their own business but I never knew what all being an entrepreneur included. From overbooking myself to being a pushover, learning what was needed from me legally! And let’s not y’all about taxes. I had a lot to learn if I wanted my business to be my main stream of income. I always tell people I’d rather work hours for myself than break my back for another.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the OhMaiBeauty story. Tell us more about the business.
OhMaiBeauty is a company focused on making all men and women feel beautiful inside and out. We specialize in natural mink extensions, eyebrow tint, and much more!

In Atlanta, the BIG lashes are in. While OhMaiBeauty only specializes in natural extensions that won’t damage your lashes. That’s what sets us apart! None of our clients come back bald. I am overwhelmingly proud of my growth as a whole. Going from working two to three jobs at one time to now being a full business owner.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe luck played a role into my business at all. Hard work and dedication is what got me to where I am today and plenty of prayer and meditation.
