Meet Maria Angel of Mangelmakeup in Dunwoody

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Angel.

Maria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Colombia and came to the US when I was 14 years old. As I was growing up, I suffered from acne and I would always find techniques to cover up my blemishes with makeup. I eventually got so good at it that I developed a passion for makeup and began watching a lot of YouTube videos and recreating makeup looks. It’s funny how a problem I had back then would lead me to find my passion and my purpose in life. I began doing my friend’s makeup and started to take makeup classes with well knows artists around the world. I eventually went to Make up For Ever Academy in New York and took classes there.

I began my freelance makeup business in 2016 and have not stopped since then. I truly enjoy making people feel more beautiful than what they are and enhance their natural beauty. I offer Halloween makeup, which I believe it is a type of makeup that not every artist can achieve, so Halloween is a very busy time of year for me and I really enjoy the transformation that I can achieve with makeup. About a year ago, I also added another service to my business, which includes a few services for Brows. I have a lot of skills that I offer to my clients and that I feel will benefit them in every way and are offered at reasonable prices. Bringing happiness and joy to my clients is the best feeling in the world and I would not change this for anything.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I believe that every obstacle is an experience you must live to be able to grow as a person and to never give up. Working as an accountant full time and also managing my side business is exhausting but it is all worth it. Growing my social media accounts has not been easy. I put a lot of time and effort in creating a look and showing it on my social media but I often get discouraged because I feel that a lot of people do not appreciate art.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am in the Beauty Industry and offer a variety of services that I chose based on my morals and values. I do not offer certain types of services just because I can make a lot of money out of them. I am truly honest with my clients and do this because I love it and enjoy it and not because making money is my first priority. As an artist, I am very talented in many different areas so I believe this is a plus for my company. My clients can come to my studio and get their makeup, brows, Halloween makeup, lash lifting, BB Glow all in one place.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Definitely around Halloween when I create very complicated makeup looks and everyone compliments on my work.
