Meet Marietta Clothing Designer: Camille Rateliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Rateliff.

Camille, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had a passion for art ever since I was a young girl. I was always able to pick up on learning things quickly. In the 10th grade, my family and I were headed on a long road trip so before we left I decided that I would try my hand at crocheting. I never tried it before nor had anyone taught me, however, by the time we finished our 10-hour voyage, I had made a full beanie. Though it was oddly shaped I was proud of my work. From then I had started making a couple here and there for fun. I would wear them out and one day one of my friends asked me if they could purchase one. Up to that point, I had not thought about selling any, but after my first sale, I decided to post on my facebook that I sell these crocheted beanies and from there the clients came! I have worked as a vendor at many different events promoted and selling my products. I now make bleached and tie-dyed hats, shirts, custom graphic tees, jewel, and scarves. But I have many more ideas in the making. This is only the beginning.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have worked at a lot of events and the hardest part has been the days when I will get no business what so ever. Even though I have had nights when I’m actually surprised at how much business I get and even the days when I completely sell out of products, it’s so easy to get discouraged when I sometimes get no business, but it’s all part of the journey. I just remind myself that someday I will have so much business that I won’t know what to do

What’s the hardest part of your job?
I’d say the hardest part of my job is getting ready for weeks for an event or a show that I would be selling my products at and it having a very poor turn out with a little profit made. This happens very rarely now but in the beginning, it used to happen quite frequently but that’s all just part of the journey

What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
Success is when the fruits of all your labor, hard work and time finally pay off. To me it will be, when I open my online store and can comfortably live off of its profit, when open my first brick and mortar store, and when I have other locations open as well in different states

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans are to have my online store open and running successfully by the end of next year and to have a physical store within the next 2-3 years
