Meet Maurissa Blackshear of Rockdale Cheerletics in Conyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurissa Blackshear.

Maurissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Rockdale Athletics, LLC began in 2016, when three educators had a dream of impacting the community by offering youth sports and fitness programs in the Rockdale County area. Rockdale Athletics promotes specific sport skills and academics in all athletes, and their main mission is to “Perfect the Dynamics of Every Athlete” by teaching kids how to incorporate Academics and Attitude with Athletics.

The following year, Rockdale Cheerletics, an Allstar Cheerleading gym was birthed in Conyers, GA. With over 20 combined years of cheerleading and gymnastics experience, they started with the goal of offering affordable services to cheerleaders to enhance their skills and technique.

We have had the privilege to work with many schools, recreational parks, weekly tumblers, and our very own cheerleading squads. After one year, we moved to a larger facility to accommodate our athletes. Since then, Cheerletics hosted 12 middle and high school cheer camps, 6 recreational park camps, various team tumbling weekly, gym rentals from other organizations and overall have hundreds of families walk through our doors on a weekly basis. Our successes ultimately led to growth of the business by implementing an Allstar Cheerleading program which is currently in Season 3 with three Allstar teams – 3rd Times a Charm!

With faith and family being the focus of our forefront, we are excited to expand our services this year with the implementation of a Summer Camp, programs for boys such as Ninja Tumbling and Nerf Wars, and many more community involvement events.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With the growth of our clientele, we have moved three times within three years. That has been tough and challenging with maintaining clientele and accommodating our growing needs. We love to see the many families that come through our doors and sometimes that unsteady moves make us lose some of the families. Trying to find a happy sense of balance and consistency.

Please tell us about Rockdale Cheerletics – what should we know?
We are an Allstar and Tumbling gym for cheerleading. We specialize in tumbling, Allstar competitive cheerleading, and camps for schools and recreational parks. We are known for having the most affordable prices n our side of town and ensuring we still meet quality with our friendly and engaging coaches. I have a coaching staff of 8 people from tumbling to Allstar. We have a family-oriented environment and we put family first by ensuring we have something for every person and budget of the family. We are set apart because not only do we focus on tumbling but we also ensure that our athletes build character and have a high standard of academics through our partnership with A-Cubed Foundation: Academics, Athletics, and Attitude!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My ability to myself I the shoes of the parents, As a mother of three and an educator, I understand how we want our children to succeed in education and sports. I am able to give that sense of understanding for the everyday parent. I am able to help them make decisions for their children and help out with their growth and success in any way possible.
