Today we’d like to introduce you to Tallia Deljou.
Tallia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It started with somewhat of an unconventional job right out of college – working as a leadership development consultant for Delta Gamma, a national sorority. Going through the transition from college student to working woman, one that everyone faces at some point, was more difficult than I had thought. After having hundreds of conversations with women on college campuses who were nearing the same transitions, it became clear how much the uncertainty and pressure to “do it right” became somewhat paralyzing in the face of choices.
Filled with questions about the human condition and how to optimize our experiences and choices, I pursued my master’s degree in Positive Organizational Psychology. Kate Gremillion, my business partner in crime, pursued the corporate route, finding herself questioning if the path she had chosen was the right one for her. She started blogging about her experience in the corporate world, only to find that many others resonated with her experiences; out of that came the podcast, which to this day shares conversations with real women about how to design a career and life with purpose.
Once we joined forces, she wanted to make sure we were providing women with the tools and resources they needed to feel in control of their carers and I wanted to make sure our work was based in research and core elements of positive psychology – the science of living a meaningful and engaging life.
Today, we work with women across the country to help them take their careers to the next level and live up to their wildest desires.
Has it been a smooth road?
In entrepreneurship, a ‘smooth road’ comes with inevitable twists and turns. We’ve made many pivots along the way because we recognize the importance of listening to the needs of the people you’re serving. You can’t be so attached to your first idea or your product/service; you have to be ready to change, adapt and evolve in service of those you are providing value to.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mavenly + Co. story. Tell us more about the business.
At Mavenly + Co., we help women take their careers to the next level. We do this through coaching programs, branding services, and online resources. What sets us apart from others is the approach we take with our clients; we position our clients as the experts in their own lives. Our role as coaches is to remove the obstacles along the way and support you in laying out the roadmap to get from where you are to where you want to be. It’s about recognizing that sometimes the only thing standing in your way is you; once you can break through the limiting beliefs and false assumptions, the road ahead becomes clear.
The unique combination of experiences and strengths that Kate and I bring to our clients as a team is also another distinguishing factor; with my academic approach based in positive psychology and Kate’s corporate background, our work brings together the reflective, emotional and mindset elements but makes sure everything is tied to actionable goals that will lead to real change.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Needless to say, we are only seeing more and more incredible women empowering women in our space. The need is clear, the gaps are clear and the work needed to continue moving the needle could not be more crucial. We expect social movements to continue growing with resources online (content, social platforms and podcasts) also becoming more available; at the same time, it’s important to us that we don’t lose the one-on-one connections with women and that we affect real change in real time.
