Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Harbers.
Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Pinkies Up BW has been in conception since 2016. We were sitting on the edge of a vineyard drinking mimosas watching the sunrise; our pinkies were slightly elevated. After spending a year in Raleigh and seeing a similar concept always filled with people, we decided to bring the concept to Roswell after the laws changed. We chose the Atlanta/Roswell area because we wanted to bring International Flavor blended with Southern Hospitality to the city that embraces those ideas.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never easy starting a business, especially one that is a new concept to the state. Our biggest hurdles we have are people expecting that we serve food, or think we’re just another package store. We didn’t want to be a restaurant, there are already so many good ones in the area already. We wanted to be a place that the guests come to take the stress of the day away either by enjoying a lovely glass of wine or beer. We have games, Crooners’ music, and an atmosphere where serendipitous conversations just happen. We’re not a package store, we don’t sell or serve liquor, and we’re not a bar. We’re a true sipping parlor serving wines and beers from around the world and craft sodas and waters.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pinkies Up Beer & Wine – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Pinkies Up Beer & Wine is a sipping parlor and retail space for craft beer and boutique wine from around the world. We also offer educational courses. Enjoy wine and beer by the glass in our lounge area, or take home a growler, bottle of wine or beer from our retail space. Our Mission is: “To create an atmosphere that inspires connections and empowers customers with knowledge of beer and wine.” We’re here to educate the community about beer and wine. We make the buying process as simple as possible. If you ever have any questions about beer or wine, stop by and ask. We’re here to help and serve our community. Also, we only take tips for charity, and we partner with a different charity every month.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’ve lived across the US in three other major cities, and my heart always tells me to come home to Atlanta. Atlanta is a melting pot of so many different cultures combined with a warm soul. I have met many people from other countries, and I love how our city embraces everyone. This is what makes it like no other southern city. We all wish for better traffic and more robust public transportation, but our desire and goal are to make Atlanta, and the surrounding communities, greener, and bee & monarch butterfly friendly. We wouldn’t have a product to sell without bees!!
