Meet Micah Baisden of PowerHouse Sports Academy in North Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Baisden.

Micah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m 27 years old from Albany, Georgia and the owner and lead personal trainer of PowerHouse Sports Academy. PowerHouse Sports Academy started in January 2016 when I initially made the chose to follow my dreams and be the entrepreneur I wanted to be. In 2016, I started with eight clients that were all over Atlanta from FairBurn to Norcoss. Even though I spent most of the money made from them in gas money it didn’t matter because I was thinking of the brand and the growth of it. In about a year and a half time, PowerHouse had grew to over 200 clients that spanded not only in Atlanta but various states across the nation and even internationally which was huge for us! The progression of myself and the brand didn’t come overnight.

Long 15-17 hour days for almost two years, consistently trying to find different ways to get more clientele, keep pushing out results from our training, being relevant in all phases of business not just in the fitness industry. Being respected and know as a growing black entrepreneur and business owner, while maintaining and providing superior professionalism, results and customer services to anybody who wanted to be apart and associate with our brand was the focus. Fast forward through 2018 and the beginning of 2019, I released my first book in October 2018 titled “Find Your Fit” allowing people to understand my mindset as a business owner and different business strategies I used that have been successful while allowing me to stay true to myself. I have received a lot of great feedback from it. The brand has grown tremendously over these years, clientele roster is high and continues to grow, our accomplishments are growing and all thanks goes to God as we get ready to embark on year three as a business and brand.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By no means has this walk as an entrepreneur been easy! One of my favorite saying is this “every dream has a price, if you want that dream to come to life you MUST pay that price” One of the struggles I would say was time and understanding that you had to pay your due diligence to it. Sacrificing time and habits for a better reward is one of things people struggle with when they are trying to be successful because they want to maintain their current lifestyle while reaching for another one and it doesn’t work. In order to advance you have to sacrifice whether it’s your sleep, interactions with family and friends and the list goes on but nothing is free especially success. Self-doubt is also a struggle. Wondering if I made the right decision at the right time to pursue a dream will scare anybody if you’re not seeing the results that you were expecting as soon as you like to see it. It’s no set “perfect time” when you should go after the things you want but when you make that mental decision to go after it realize that it’s not coming overnight and it’s going to be Ups and down but don’t doubt yourself because the biggest enemy to your success is you IF you allow it.

Outside support was another struggle. I had to realize early that it’s nobody job to believe in my dreams but me. Too many times people get down when family and friends don’t support their dreams as they would like but it’s not their job to do so it’s your dreams as long as you support them then if you get extra outside support it’s a blessing but you should not be looking for a co-signer of your dreams. People tend to not be so supportive out the gate when something is new and usually people support more when it’s growing and creating a buzz in the world and that’s not a bad thing at all. Don’t shut down because you think you should have more help from others but instead focus on the things that can push your dreams so hard that others have no choice but to respect it and want to be a part of it.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about PowerHouse Sports Academy – what should we know?
PowerHouse Sports Academy is a fitness brand and company that specializes in small group, big group, and personal fitness training. We specialize but are not limited to strength/weight training, cross- fit, calisthenics, speed and agility, flexibility, rehabilitation, and core training. The number one thing I’m proud of would be the is high consistency rate of getting our clients results from training with us! We really focus and pride ourselves on making sure our clients received maximum benefits from our training services. One of the leading factors that separate us from other fitness brands etc. is the education part of our training and the family atmosphere we provide for our clients. Unlike most, we don’t “workout” where the clients doesn’t understand muscles and muscle groups how they interact or relate to others, etc. We focus on making our clients “their own personal trainer” to the point where they don’t need us but our clientele stays because of the variety of training styles and training sessions, superior professionalism, and customer service as well as the expertise we provide and this has been very beneficial for our business.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The Golden Rule has always been a driving quality to me in business “Do unto others as you will have them do unto you” You treat people with the same dignity and respect you will want as a human and a customer and if that’s the standard of the business then everybody will follow under the protocol.
