Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Little.
Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in the music town of Macon, Georgia, surrounded by the likes of Otis Redding, James Brown, and Ray Charles, Michael grew up listening to the sounds of Donny Hathaway, The O’Jays, and The Temptations. He gravitated toward percussion and singing at an early age and eventually learned to play the piano. From childhood, it seems that his entire life had been a nurturing experience, preparing him for a lifetime career in music.
Immediately after graduating from high school, he went off to Morris Brown College to study music. There he learned to appreciate all styles of music from classical, jazz, gospel, rhythm & blues, to rock. He started performing professionally at age 14 and has graced the stage with such artists as The Four Tops, Jamie Fox, Miles Jay, Steve Harvey and many others.
Now living in Mableton, Georgia, with his wife, Towanda, and two daughters, Jessica and Jocelyn, Michael looks forward to continuing his belief in God first and to always give his all to create and perform the best music possible in order to touch and encourage people of all ages. MaxWood Records was founded in 2011 by now CEO Michael Little in Mableton, GA. Michael, who is a seasoned professional musician, songwriter, artist and producer who always dreamed of starting, has own records label. To the likes of Barry Gordy, Quincy Jones and other greats in the music industry. The name MaxWood derived from his parents’ names Maxine and Woodrow Little, who were the greatest parents who ever lived. They always taught their kids to treat others how you would like to be treated. With love, kindness and respect. And it’s better to give than to receive.
The first artist to release music on the MaxWood Label was Jessica Dinae’ who released a single in 2012 “I’m Yours.” That was followed by her EP “Melodies of the Heart,” released in 2019. Today MaxWood Records and Management LLC is on the move looking to sign several other up and coming star talent. Such as singer, songwriter Cory Williams and singer, songwriter and producer Dre Cole and a host of others.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve always had the dream of being in the music industry from a young age. But as we all know at some point, life realities always sooner or later shows its head. That happened with right after college when I decided to go on the road and pursue my dreams of being a full-time musician and artist. Thou it was a struggle and came with lots of obstacles. But through all of that, I learn so much about being in front of an audience and entertaining the people. Also, I think during those times, I really learned how to be a man.
There many days and nights of not knowing where your next paycheck was coming from nor your next meal. Through it, all God provided and always showed up right on time. After a year and a half of being a full-time musician, wanting to start a family. I decided to get a real job and pursue music part-time. This allowed me to work days and do my music in the evenings. As well as do church as a Minister of Music. I would not change the journey for it has taught so much as a Man, Husband and Father.
