Today we’d like to introduce you to Miles Garrett.
Hi Miles, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I went to high school at Cambridge in Alpharetta after growing up in the area for years. I took an interest in sports reporting after I got a DM of encouragement from ESPN analyst Adam Schefter.
I then studied journalism at Elon University and then got my first TV job covering news in Macon. After that I got an opportunity to cover Notre Dame athletics in South Bend for a FOX station there.
I got offered a job in Atlanta back in 2021 with FOX 5 to cover the Falcons, exclusively before being an embed reporter for Governor Kemp in 2022. Since then I’ve been able to cover awesome events like the Braves World Series, two National Championships at the University of Georgia, and hosting my own Georgia and Falcons postgame shows.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was definitely hard along the way working in places where I didn’t know anybody. A sports reporters schedule isn’t the most ideal working most weekends and sometimes holidays.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Today I’m a sports reporter and anchor with FOX 5 Atlanta. I usually specialize in Falcons, Braves, and Georgia coverage. I do some guest appearances on podcasts and 92.9 the Game as well. I’m most proud of the feature stories I’ve been able to do. I’ve been nominated for an Emmy 3 years in a row for best sports story in the southeast and I’m very proud of the work I’ve done — like personal stories on former UGA coach Mark Richt and his player Tra Battle, former Georgia Tech quarterback Reggie Ball’s relationship with a boy with cancer, or my feature on Braves outfielder Michael Harris and his late best friend.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was very much in to sports but was never very athletic. I actually had a desire to get in to aviation or be an astronaut as a child since my dad is a pilot. For the most part through, I really enjoyed being with my friends.
