Today we’d like to introduce you to Moe and Nicki Lynch.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Moe and Nicki. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Moe: Growing up in the 80’s I quickly became a fan of cinema by watching all genres of movies from “The Karate Kid” to “Friday The 13th” and everything in between. When I created multiple booklets of the “Police Academy” movies I knew I wanted to write or do something involved with entertainment. I would draw stick figures of the movie characters with dialogue underneath from whatever my favorite scenes were. My junior year of high school, I wrote a 50-page script called “Set Trippin’ ”, based loosely by all the neighborhood beefs I witnessed growing up in Battle Creek, Michigan. I changed the names of characters and changed the location to Brooklyn, NY so no one would know I was talking about people from my neighborhood.
When I finished the script, I gave a couple of copies to some females in my class and they all read it during their second and third-period classes LOL. They all loved it and it boosted my confidence as a writer and an entertainer. I attended Specs Howard School of Media in Southfield, Michigan to study film making. I applied that knowledge to create my first feature film called “Blaze: The Truth Through Hip Hop” which I produced with my girlfriend at the time, Nicki Jefferson (Now Lynch). After that experience, we formed Righteous Entertainment and went on to produce several short films and documentaries that would take us all over the world from Mumbai, India to Los Angeles and Atlanta.
Nicki Lynch: I actually started in the Marketing industry. Nearly 15 years ago, I had a web design and advertising firm. I was well on my way to building my “Oprah empire”- single and successful…at least that’s what I thought! But then I met Moe and my entire life plan was derailed!
When Moe started trying to date me, one of the first questions I asked him was did he know his purpose in life? He told me he wanted to be a filmmaker. The 2nd question I asked was “well, what are you doing about it”? I half expected him to be like the typical guys I would meet growing up in Atlanta, who always answered that they were in the studio pursuing a music career. But when I would dig a little further, I saw that they were really not serious about doing the work needed to pursue their careers.
What was surprising about Moe was the fact that he was serious about his passion as a writer had a plan and was actively pursuing his career in the film industry! However, at that time he was in a bit of a snag with producing his first film idea, because he thought he had to wait on someone from Hollywood to give him approval. I had never done a film project before, but my background as an entrepreneur had taught me to be resourceful. So after talking with him in more detail, I knew I wanted to help. We worked on our first documentary together while dating, which gave me my start as a producer in the film industry.
Not too long after producing our first film, we started receiving awards and recognition for our films. This led to the need to start attending red carpet events. As a plus-size woman who was used to being behind the scenes, attending red carpets became a daunting task. I was not confident in how I looked. I didn’t know how to pose for a camera. I simply didn’t want to take pictures because I didn’t want to look fat! As a result, I looked for and found help in a plus-size modeling organization who taught classes in these basic necessities.
During my years with the plus-size group, I noticed an increasing number of these women were beautiful on the outside, but had low self-esteem and lacked confidence in themselves. They knew how to put on a mask and making everything look great, but they held emotional scars from their past that was affecting their future. My compassion for them grew, and I knew I wanted to help. This became the start of PLUS Positive my nonprofit organization.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All in all we have had a smooth road in producing stories we are passionate about. We have been very fortunate to have built and maintained great industry relationships throughout the years. If anything our struggle has been in meeting the right people to get our stories picked up by major studios and networks. We are not typically the type of people who attends every networking event and goes out and promotes ourselves every chance we get. The downside is that we don’t always get to meet the decision-makers who can help us get our stories sold. But that has never been a deterrent! We love what we do and will continue doing what we can with what we have! We have won awards and gained recognition for the quality of our work, so we do believe one day we will meet the right people who can help us get to the next level in our careers. In the meantime, we are focused on producing quality content and making sure we are ready when our big break comes!

We also advocate for #SizeDiversity in the film and TV industry, because we believe #RepresentationMatters in helping our youth accept, appreciate, and respect their individual body types.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Moe: My favorite childhood memory would be when Ghostbusters 2 came out in 1989. I was 11 years old at the time and I mimicked the Ghostbuster Proton Pack by taking a brown grocery bag, attached a rubber tube as the slime gun and used waist belts as the straps for the paper bag to make it like a backpack. Me and my homeboys rode through the hood on our Schwinn bicycles wearing these fake proton packs looking for ghosts.
Nicki Lynch: My favorite childhood memory was when I hit my first triple in softball. I used to play fast pitch softball at Exchange Park in Decatur, GA. Prior to this, I lacked confidence as a player because I was new to the game and everyone else had been playing since tee ball. I was one of the last people in line to hit, and often time was riding the bench during most games. But this particular day, I was MAD! I was tired of the other team acting like I was an easy out! They would come in every time I was up to bat because they knew I wasn’t a good hitter. Between them and my teammates fussing at me, I had enough! I went up to bat and on the first pitch I knocked it clear out past the center-fields head! I rounded those bases at top speed! I was going to go for an inside-the-park home run, but my coach stopped me at 3rd base! In that moment my entire life changed! I realized that I could do what I set my mind to. My confidence rose through the roof! Following that day, I quickly proved to be one of the best players on the team and went on to multiple college softball scholarships offers from D1 schools!
