Today we’d like to introduce you to Nat Srisatjang.
Nat, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My professional journey actually began in the fast-paced, high-stakes world of the hotel business. Working in hospitality is like attending a masterclass in human connection and logistics; you learn very quickly that luxury isn’t just about how a lobby looks, but how a guest feels. However, despite being immersed in that world, I always had this persistent, quiet urge to build something of my own. I didn’t have a specific blueprint yet—I just knew I wanted to be the one calling the shots and creating a brand from the ground up.
The pivot into florals was actually quite unexpected. It wasn’t a ‘love at first sight’ story where I spent my childhood in gardens. To be honest, I started out just liking flowers. I respected their beauty, but I didn’t yet realize their power. But as I began to work with them, something shifted. I realized that flowers weren’t just decor; they were architectural elements that could completely transform the energy of a room.
I moved past just ‘liking’ the product and fell head-over-heels for the design process. I loved the challenge of taking a client’s abstract emotion and turning it into a tangible, ‘ornate’ reality. I realized I could take the disciplined, five-star service standards I learned in hotels and marry them with this new, high-end creative outlet.
That’s how Ornate Events and Designs was born. I went from managing guest stays to designing life-changing milestones. Today, we don’t just ‘do flowers’—we curate entire atmospheres. It’s been an incredible evolution from the hospitality grind to a design studio where every petal and every placement is intentional. I’ve learned that you don’t always have to start with a lifelong passion; sometimes, you start with a curiosity and a strong work ethic, and the passion builds itself along the way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a walk in the park. One of the most profound realizations I had early on was just how fragile this business is—literally and figuratively. In the hotel world, if a lightbulb goes out, you replace it. In the floral world, you are dealing with a living, breathing product that has a shelf life.
Event flowers are a different beast entirely. Unlike a bouquet you buy for your kitchen table, event florals have to survive transport, heat, and hours of display while looking flawless. There is a silent, high-stakes pressure in knowing that these delicate stems have to hold up for a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Managing that fragility requires a level of precision and ‘logistical grace’ that I had to learn the hard way.
Beyond the product, the road has involved mastering the delicate art of relationships. Coming from hospitality, I knew how to handle guests, but running my own firm meant learning to navigate the deep emotional weight of a client’s big day. You aren’t just a vendor; you’re a keeper of their dreams.
At the same time, I’ve had to learn how to lead a team and, perhaps most challenging and rewarding of all, work alongside my husband. Building a business with your spouse is a beautiful exercise in communication. You have to learn how to transition from ‘business partners’ in the warehouse to ‘husband and wife’ at the dinner table. We’ve had to navigate the struggle of setting boundaries so that Ornate Events and Designs doesn’t consume our entire personal life. There were days when the stress of a deadline or a fragile shipment tested us, but we’ve learned that our marriage is the strongest foundation the business has.
So no, it hasn’t been smooth—it’s been a constant balancing act. It’s about protecting the flowers, the client’s vision, the employee morale, and my marriage all at once. But it’s that very fragility that makes the final, ‘ornate’ result so much more precious.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Ornate Events and Designs, I specialize in full-scale floral and event design that feels both intentional and immersive. My work is about more than just placing flowers in a vase; it’s about transforming a space into an environment that tells a story. I’ve become known for a style that is—as our name suggests—ornate. I love the intricate details, the layered textures, and the bold use of color and structure that makes a guest stop in their tracks.
What truly sets us apart is the marriage of my background in the hotel industry with my growth as a creative. I don’t just look at an event through an artistic lens; I look at it through a logistical one. I understand that event flowers are incredibly fragile and temperamental. Managing that fragility—ensuring that a delicate bloom looks as fresh at midnight as it did at noon—is a technical skill that I take great pride in.
I’m also incredibly proud of the fact that this is a family-led endeavor. My husband and I work side-by-side to bring these visions to life. Building a business together has added a layer of trust and communication to our process that our clients can really feel. He handles the structural and logistical heavy lifting that allows my creative designs to take flight.
If I had to pinpoint what I’m most proud of, it’s the transition I’ve made. I started with a simple ‘urge’ to be an entrepreneur and a ‘like’ for flowers, and I have built that into a design firm that handles some of life’s most precious moments. We are known for our reliability and our high-touch service. When a client hires Ornate, they aren’t just getting a florist; they are getting a team that treats their event with the same discipline of a five-star hotel and the heart of a family business.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Success is never a solo act, and Ornate Events and Designs certainly wouldn’t be where it is today without a strong foundation of support.
First and foremost, the biggest credit goes to my husband. Transitioning from a stable career in the hotel business to the unpredictable world of entrepreneurship was a leap of faith, and he was the one who encouraged me to jump. Today, he is much more than a cheerleader; he is my partner in the truest sense. He manages the complex logistics and the heavy-duty structural side of our installations, which allows me the mental space to focus on the artistry and client relationships. We balance each other—where I see the ‘ornate’ beauty, he sees the blueprint to make it stand safely and perfectly.
I also owe a great deal to my former colleagues in the hospitality industry. They were my first mentors in the ‘art of the guest experience.’ They taught me that the difference between a good event and an unforgettable one is in the details that most people don’t notice. That ‘five-star’ discipline is baked into everything we do at Ornate.
I also want to credit our early clients. In the beginning, when I was still moving from ‘liking’ flowers to ‘mastering’ design, those first few couples and brands took a chance on my vision. They trusted me with their most important days before I had a massive portfolio to show for it. Their word-of-mouth advocacy is the fuel that grew this business.
Lastly, I’m grateful for my team. Dealing with the fragility of event flowers is physically and mentally taxing work. It takes a specific kind of person to show up at 4:00 AM with a smile to ensure a floral wall is perfect. They are the hands that bring my sketches to life, and their dedication to excellence is what keeps the ‘Ornate’ standard high.
