Meet Nayo Dez of NJ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nayo Dez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was so lost..
Growing up in America by the most haitian people you’ll ever meet.
I’m wasn’t born in Haiti so I always felt I never truly could relate completely I didn’t feel haitian enough for Haitian people.

So that meant I’m technically American right? I should fit in for sure!  Wrong!
My traditions, upbringing and conditioning that have been instilled into me throughout my childhood by my parents kept me from truly being able to relate to Americans and their mentality, so I guess I’m not fully American either.
I asked myself these question so many times with no answers.

High school was kinda cool! I found my voice (literally) I had attended an art school for vocal music and began singing for Disney World and Universal studios!

It was then that I knew what my calling was.
But the questions still remained..

Where do I fit in?
Who are my people?
Who understands me?

Hence, the beginning of my life’s work! That’s when my solo independent artist journey began.
I set out on my quest to find my people..
my HAT (Haitian American Tribe)
That is how my single “Island girl” was born in 2021.

I’ve auditioned for shows like American Idol, The Voice, America’s got talent, karaoke, wars, etc. Any and every platform I could try to get myself on I would attend every open mic night, every talent show, every showcase.

I have met and networked with some amazing people And I know I will find and join my true soul tribe members.
My H.A.T. (Haitian American Tribe) Spreading all my love along the way…

October of 2023 I started on my EP journey, and I began to write and self record and experience things in a relationship that I had never experienced before. The EP titled “SEASONS” is my personal experience and firsthand account of how much mental Health can play a part in affecting partnerships, relationships, and being able to control your emotions, I’ve experience so many hardships and heartbreaks in relationships and it always seems to be like there was a lesson to be learned, I know that the lesson I successfully learned is that I unconditionally love myself. My newest single “WINTER” was released in late January of 2025.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Disappointment, rejection, and one of the most frustrating Roblox is just financially being able to invest in my art. I’ve been taking my entire life, and I never realized that the industry was so corrupt. I’ve struggle to receive support from close family members and friends. I’m not giving up on myself for my music but now I am more intentional about my approach.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love to sing. I have been an artist since 2021 but I’ve been a singer my whole life. I started a gospel music, but decided to branch off into R&B and soul to really express myself honestly and truly. I’m known for my song, Island girl. Which is a song that I wrote for my daughters to encourage them to fight for their dreams. I am most proud of the tour that I did in 2022 to 2023 and performing over 250 shows over that course of time. But test me a part is the only validation I need is from myself and as long as I am happy and I continue to love what I do nothing could ever stop me.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Determination, endurance, pure love, focus, and kindness. Also, I’m pretty tough too.
