Today we’d like to introduce you to Niji Keshinro.
Niji, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
First and foremost I am an Atlanta Original. Born at Northside hospital and grew up in Zone 3, Southwest Atlanta. I became a licensed REALTOR in 2015 merely off the fact that I was questioning selling my residence at that time. I reached out to a friend in the business, who at that time, didn’t see much of a profit for me to sell it through her. She advised that I get my license and sell it my self. I don’t think she thought I would be proactive. For years, I had been a fan of the hit television show “Million Dollar Listing”. The brokers on that series motivated me. I studied their transactions and finesse. Once I got my license, I immediately contacted my friend and asked her could I shadow her, to get my feet wet. Conflicts with her schedule never allowed that to transpire, so I began a total revision of my image on social media. I went out and bought new suits to acquire the “look”. I began taking as many classes as were provided so that I could learn the business inside and out.
For years, my peers knew me as a firefighter for the City of Atlanta. I had to convince them that I was serious about real estate. Once I acquired my first client, a fellow Clark Atlanta University alumni, I hit the ground running. From that moment on, I went on a branding campaign. Having a strong background in club promotion aided my efforts. I chose to use things happening in pop culture and give a comedic twist that could relate to the real estate industry; while also educating as well. So with the casual “scrollers” of Instagram passing by my page, I began to create a buzz. My campaign has been a success thus far. I have been able to assist over 50 families buy or sell property in the past three years. My client database ranges from millennial first-time home buyers to established professional athletes. I treat every client with the same respect and courtesy, no matter the price-point. So currently, I was recognized as one of the top (5) performers at my firm (Village Realty). Business has picked up so well that I am in the process of producing a team of other like-minded individuals to take over the market. The best thing that could have happened to me was getting “curved” by my friend in the industry.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This industry is not easy! In the beginning, you don’t have many or ANY clients. You have to find a way or make one. There are many people who see me doing my “thang”, and have come to me and actually said, ” if you can do it, I know I can do it”. Those folks have NO IDEA. I politely accept the challenge every time. There are many early mornings where you’ll have to get up and perform research for your clients. In this industry, time is of the essence. You can’t hesitate on any aspect or you will not only lose money but possibly miss out on attaining your client’s dream home. My mornings usually start around 3:30 am. I’ve completed more work by 7am than most folks will do in an 8-hour shift of a 9 to 5. Another aspect of the profession is having to take on other people’s stress. Whatever your client is going through, throughout the transaction is falling on your shoulders. So in retrospect, you become a counselor, friend, and a punching bag.
