Today we’d like to introduce you to Ni’Kay.
Hi Ni’Kay , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Ni’Kay Ranae, and I am the founder and designer behind Nikki J Collection LLC. My journey began with a passion for fashion, creativity, and helping women feel confident from the inside out. What started as a love for styling and creating unique pieces gradually evolved into a fashion brand focused on empowerment, confidence, and self-expression.
Over the years, I have worn many hats—from personal stylist and designer to entrepreneur and content creator—while balancing a full-time career and family responsibilities. Building my brand has come with challenges, including learning the business side of fashion, growing an audience, and navigating the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. However, each obstacle taught me valuable lessons about resilience, faith, and perseverance.
A significant turning point in my journey was the rebranding of Nikki J Collection. The brand was dedicated to my late father, Raney Jackson, whose work ethic, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit continue to inspire me. The ‘J’ in Nikki J Collection stands for Jackson, serving as a daily reminder of the legacy I want to build.
Today, Nikki J Collection is more than a clothing brand—it’s a platform dedicated to helping women discover confidence, embrace their identity, and express themselves authentically through fashion. As I continue to grow, my goal is to expand opportunities through fashion education, mentorship, community programs, and creative experiences that inspire others to pursue their dreams regardless of where they start.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced challenges with funding, marketing, growing brand awareness, and balancing business ownership with a full-time career and family responsibilities. There have been seasons where sales were slow, opportunities didn’t work out as planned, and I questioned whether I should keep going.
One of the most difficult challenges was learning how to navigate the business side of fashion. Designing came naturally to me, but understanding branding, marketing, contracts, finances, and scaling a business required a lot of self-education and persistence.
Another significant challenge was experiencing personal loss. After losing my father, I found a deeper purpose in my business. His work ethic and entrepreneurial mindset inspired me to keep building, even during difficult times. That experience led me to rebrand Nikki J Collection in his honor and gave me a renewed sense of purpose.
Despite the obstacles, every challenge has helped me grow stronger as a business owner and as a person. I’ve learned to be resilient, adaptable, and patient. The journey hasn’t been easy, but each setback has helped shape the vision I have today for Nikki J Collection and the impact I want to make through fashion, mentorship, and community outreach.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Fashion Designer and Film Wardrobe Stylist. I specialize in custom fashion design, personal styling, wardrobe consulting, and creating unique statement pieces that allow women to express their individuality with confidence.
Beyond fashion, I am passionate about empowering women through mentorship, personal development, and creative experiences. My brand is built on the belief that fashion is more than clothing—it’s a tool that can help people embrace who they are and show up confidently in every area of life.
I am known for creating custom, one-of-a-kind designs that blend creativity, elegance, and personality. Whether it’s a custom jacket, a runway piece, or a styled look for a client, I strive to create designs that make people feel seen, confident, and empowered.
What I am most proud of is building Nikki J Collection from the ground up while balancing a full-time career, family responsibilities, and the challenges that come with entrepreneurship. I am also proud of the opportunities I’ve created for models, creatives, and aspiring professionals through photoshoots, fashion events, collaborations, and mentorship initiatives.
What sets me apart is that my mission goes beyond selling clothing. I focus on transformation. My goal is to help women discover their true identity, increase their confidence, and recognize their value. Every collection, event, and project is intentionally designed to inspire, empower, and leave a lasting impact. Fashion is simply the vehicle I use to help people step into the best version of themselves.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Atlanta is the diversity, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit. The city is full of talented individuals who are building businesses, pursuing their dreams, and supporting one another. As a fashion designer and entrepreneur, I appreciate the opportunities Atlanta provides for networking, collaboration, and creative expression. There is always something happening, whether it’s a fashion show, community event, business conference, or creative project.
What I like least is how challenging it can sometimes be for small businesses to stand out in such a large and competitive market. While there are many opportunities, there are also many brands competing for attention. However, I’ve learned to view that challenge as motivation to continue growing, innovating, and building meaningful relationships within the community.
Overall, Atlanta has been a place of growth, opportunity, and inspiration, and I’m grateful to be part of its vibrant business and creative community.
