Meet Nikia Dejoie of Nikkis Makeup Lounge in Lithonia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikia Dejoie.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am an original ATL native (Grady Baby). I was raised on the East Side of ATL in Decatur. Even as a young child beauty and fashion have always been a part of my life. My mom was known for her sewing abilities and I never missed a Thursday hair appointment. I spent a great deal of my life inside of beauty salons. I always admired stylist and how in demand they were.

I would watch women sit for eight hours waiting to be seen by their favorite stylist but the person I admired the most was the lady asking in between service if you needed your eyebrows done. During my salon sits, I would see how that 15 min brow appointment changed the entire look of the ladies. In 2004, I entered the beauty industry part time partnering with a family member while still working my full-time corporate job. My corporate career ended due to the recession in 2008 and I was forced to decide what my next journey would be. I enjoyed the beauty industry but I knew hair wasn’t my calling.

During the time I was figuring out my next move I found LOVE😍😍, got married 👰and had my first child🤰. I left the industry in 2009 but after giving birth in 2010 I returned but this time I wanted to take a different approach and do what it is I really LOVE which was esthetics. I wanted my focus to be Full Makeup Service, Eyelash Application and Brows so I allowed faith to guide me this time. The makeup industry was not as popular when I entered the career as a makeup artist but within about two years my career had grown tremendously. I ventured off as my own brand Nikki’s Makeup Lounge…

My vision was to create a “Happy Place” for women in a private atmosphere not in an open, loud setting like a mall or beauty salon but something personal where during your appointment time you can feel free to talk, laugh, relax and most important after 45 minutes leave out feeling like the most beautiful woman in the world! In 2018 I launched my mink lash line called “HypnotEYES Lashes” and a Full Eyebrow enhancer kit. I have worked on film, television, and editorial with some amazing celebrities. Outside of operating my full-service makeup salon suite I have also been giving the opportunity to work for FOX Network as a makeup artist for Dish Nation as well Growing Up Hip Hop on WETV. I absolutely LOVE my career and don’t consider this “work” its actually living my dream!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, I wanted to give up EVERYDAY… I saw no profit! After two years I finally saw the fruits of my labor.

Please tell us about Nikki’s Makeup Lounge.
Nikki’s Makeup Lounge specializes in Natural and Glam Full Face Makeup Application, Lashes, and brows for ALL ages, race, and occasions. I LOVE bridal makeup. I am most proud of the growth and built relationships I have accumulated over the years. I think what sets me apart is that financial profits are not my main focus in my business.. my main focus is customer service. I am BIG on customer service.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a child is using my younger relatives as my hair and makeup clients.
