Meet Omolola Otubaga of MindSet Healthcare in South Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omolola Otubaga.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Omolola. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I always knew that I wanted to be a healthcare provider. Initially, I thought I was going to be a pharmacist, but after the birth of my child, my nurse changed my perspective. Giving birth was challenging however, the nurse eased my fears throughout the process. The power of her genuine care was heartfelt and because of that experience, I knew I had to pay it forward. At that moment, I knew that becoming a nurse was my purpose. When I left the hospital with my child, I not only thanked her for assisting with my birth, but I expressed to her how her presence left an impression on my future career plans. Life prior to being a mother was selfish and I could no longer live by those standards. My next step was looking five years ahead; within this plan, I became a Registered Nurse. I then set my sights on achieving the goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Once that was accomplished, I opened my own practice and started a non-profit a year later.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road by any means and I am so grateful for that. The business has been a learning curve and it has challenged me to the point of wanting to give up at times but as the saying goes, “No struggle, no progress.” I would not change anything that I have experienced, because it forced me to grow, not only professionally but personally as well.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the MindSet Healthcare story. Tell us more about your practice.
I am the owner of MindSet Healthcare, a Mental Health Practice in Fayetteville, GA. As the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner of my practice, I see clients throughout the life span who are dealing with mental health problems. As one of the providers there, I treat clients based on their symptoms and together, we come up with a treatment plan. My specialty includes anxiety, depression, ADHD, and substance abuse disorder. I decided to embark on this endeavor based on my experience of working in other practices. I wanted to change the dynamic of mental health practices as a whole.

My office is different than most mental health practices from the look all the way to the feel. We offer therapy, labs, and group in house and also provide HIV and STD Risk and Prevention, Medicated-Assisted Treatment, Pharmacogenomic Testing, and Clozapine Therapy. It is very rare that you will find a mental health practice that offers all of these services under one roof. Everything is usually separated and that separation prevents continuity of care. My ultimate goal is to normalize mental health and make it comfortable to discuss among family and friends. I am appreciative that my company has survived through the storm and is continuing to thrive. Everyday we are resetting minds and changing lives.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Personally, I believe in luck only in certain situations of life, with winning the lottery being one. There is no such thing as ‘luck’ when it comes to business. Business is a daily grind that requires sacrifice, discipline and faith. Everything that I have conquered, came through by the power of manifestation with hard work, perseverance and passion. So as you see, I am not lucky, I am a goal crusher.
