Today we’d like to introduce you to Over/Under.
Hi Over/Under, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Over/Under started in a studio apartment in downtown Atlanta. Marlow and I had met through mutuals and connected over our passion for music. We were both learning how to mix on our own and one day decided we needed to meet up & mix together. She came over, we played music for each other & loved it so much we planned to do it every weekend. Once we had been consistently mixing together at home for a while, we decided we wanted to create a platform for ourselves– at first, to share what we were learning & playing but eventually expanded into throwing events, booking gigs & spreading our mission– to build community through music in a space where music has no boundaries.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s definitely been many obstacles along the way, it hasn’t been an easy journey. We both started Over/Under while working 9-5’s and other side gigs, so balancing a project like this was difficult especially when we got busy.
Even through the difficulties, we’ve truly supported each other through the many life experiences we’ve shared with one another, which we believe is the core to what makes us work together so well. We truly believe in what Over/Under has to share with the world.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are two friends seeking to build community through music. We are a blend of styles; all and none at once. Uncovering the unknown, the feelings we can’t quite put into words. Exploring sounds that are attached to memories and best of all, sharing them with our friends & community.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
We started Over/Under as a conversation between two people who wanted to share what music they loved, and our story evolved into something neither of us expected. It’s something we credit often as a huge aspect to what’s brought us success over time because we really enjoy what we are able to create with mixing, but more importantly as artists/creatives. Inclusivity, creativity & acceptance are at the core of what we do. Our ambition and intentionality brought us together and is a driving force for our work together.
