Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramese Marcel Long.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ramese Marcel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in a music industry family. Both of my parents were in the industry, but my father remained for 30 years helping others become famous, LA Reid, MC Hammer and more. I followed in his footsteps working as an on-air DJ at the age of 13 years old.
At 16 years old, I started a rap group with my older brother and his best friend which was the start of a 20 year journey of being in the music industry. After countless failures and my parents separating, we began to lose everything. Our Dad lost his job and we lost our house. In financial dire straits, I took it upon myself to try and “save” the family and make our dreams come true, which is what led me to the fitness industry. I was always athletic, but I decided to work at a gym because this would give me the flexibility to pursue my dream, exercise and meet people.
After over 20 years of going for this dream, it was time to put that dream to rest. I had gained over 70lbs, became depressed, anxious, and had suicidal thoughts. The band I had created had kicked me out, I spent a night in jail and that’s when I knew I had to start changing my life for the better again.
This process led me on a journey of losing weight, fighting my internal demons and searching for my purpose. After 10 more years of taking two steps forward and two steps back, I was able to break through my own mental barriers and become an honorary board member for Special Olympics GA, a blogger for Atlanta Tribune Magazine, and finally become the fitness instructor for The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation for the past three years.
As a result of losing weight and getting my mind back together, it’s helped me get back to my spirituality, which has made me feel better and give off better energy to receive the manifestations and blessings I’ve been needing. This had led me to opening my next health club, called Leg Daze in Brookhaven, GA. I wanted to create a place that has a whole system in place for people to not just get in shape physically but to get in shape mentally.
Leg Daze is leg based circuit training using equipment that professional organizations and athletes use. With each membership we offer an assessment with a Licensed Professional Counselor to help my members with any mental health issues they may have that could be blocking them from being their best and manifesting their own dreams.
I don’t want Leg Daze to be just a gym where people come in and workout, but a gym that has its own tribe of people who realize that we are all the same but different and make this a place where you can workout, hang out, hold an event and have a platform to reach your own goals, personally and professionally.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road at all. The hardest part was letting go of my dream of music and letting God lead me to my purpose and for me to accept what my purpose is versus what I wanted.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Leg Daze is a leg based circuit training gym that works the entire body inside and out. We have equipment that no one in Atlanta has and a variety of classes under one roof so you don’t have to go from studio to studio to get the variety you need to get results. I wanted to create a place where if you just come workout consistently, you will get results. How? The largest muscle group in the body are your legs. You increase the muscle in your body, your metabolism increases. As a result of an increased metabolism you will burn more calories when your body is at rest producing changes while you’re away from the gym.
What sets Leg Daze apart is there is no gym in the marketplace that specializes on legs with a circuit of equipment that professionals use. In addition, we provide each member with an assessment from a Licensed Professional Counselor. We truly work your mind and body.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio and then Thousand Oaks, California I was always the happy kid who was a big dreamer which led me to my dream of music and now my dream of helping others feel good while they pursue their own personal and professional dreams. I’m a dream pusher!
