Meet Roshanda King of Rozay’s Boutique in Covington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roshanda King.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Early Spring 2018, I was just sitting around one day constantly thinking of different ways I can take a passion of mine and turn it into another stream of income. After pondering over and over, the only thing that I could come up with is to take my love for fashion and make it more noticeable and help others to increase their fashion sense at an affordable price.

Shortly after, I started brainstorming on what my clothing boutique would be called, I gathered as much info from family members and the internet that I could to help get my business on the road. I decided that I would use my nickname (Rozay) as the store name because it’s unique and was catchy. So May 2018, I applied for my LLC and became the Owner of Rozay’s Boutique LLC.

Being that I am well known around my community and surrounding counties and have established long-term relationships with many people I was quickly able to get my name out there via social media, friend referrals, etc. Which brings me to elaborate on how successful my boutique has been within the first year. Rozay’s has had over 500 orders whether is was directly from the website, via cash app or invoice being sent from site or Paypal. I set a goal for revenue for my business and I am happily able to say I made 3 thousand more than the goal I set for my business. I’ve been told many of times that in the first year, sometimes the first three years of business you will not see a profit and that is true. I’ve basically got back what I put into my business and made some to be able to keep it running efficiently.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No!!!! Being a business owner has definitely taught me patience. There have been many times when I wanted to give up, but I always remind myself that anything easy to get, won’t last long. So I just keep pushing. One of my biggest struggles has been to find the “perfect” clothing vendor. I can honestly say, for the first six months in business, I wasted lots of money ordering different items from different vendors just to find the right one. Although it took some time, I can say it paid off. My current vendor(s) are in the US and have very good quality clothing. Which is why I offer a vendor list on my website to help small business owners who are interested in a clothing boutique not waste as much money as I did.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rozay’s Boutique story. Tell us more about the business.
Rozay’s Boutique is a clothing boutique that sell women and men clothing items. The women collection has much more to choose from than men, but we are currently looking to expand the men’s collection. We specialize in outerwear, activewear, urban wear, and casual clothing items. We have also currently added my personal clothing line (Respect Clothing) to the inventory. We are known for having the latest fashions for the best prices.

As a company, I am most proud of the growth in clientele and the awesome reviews I have got back from my customers thus far. It makes me feel very proud that I am able to dress someone and they love and appreciate the item(s) that they purchase.

I would say because I am a great communicator, outgoing, and a very understanding person, this sets me apart from others. Not everyone can communicate and provide customer service to others in a way that the customer feel as if they appreciated whether they have purchased something from you or not. I am also very consistent in whatever I do. I don’t switch up things without notice and I try to almost always provide detailed explanations for whatever I do, if it may affect something or someone else. I always take others into consideration because I would want the same done for me.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has definitely played a major role in my life when it comes to my business. I am very lucky to have a successful business running and rapidly expanding within the first year. I could have been in the hole, still losing money finding vendors or even shut down at this point. However, God has other plans for me and my business, because I don’t see the end anywhere near. With that being said, I would like to say I don’t think it’s all luck, I’m definitely blessed because without keeping God first and believing and trusting in him, none of this would be possible.
