Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Hayes.
Sabrina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I joined a Direct Sales Company in June 2012 with the desire to simply gain free products that appealed to me. I didn’t know at that time that the decision I was making in the living room of a woman I didn’t know would begin a seven-year journey towards starting a direct sales company of my own. Shortly after joining, I began to realize that where I had been planted was in the fertile ground of the opportunity to increase diversity in leadership and to lead women into the entrepreneur life that many of them did not think they could attain. Five years of leadership within someone else’s company gave me the firm foundation I needed to start my own: leadership lessons, celebrations and pains, losses and gains, opportunities realized and missed, and the basics of business and people.
There came a season of time towards the end where I became dissatisfied with where I was in my journey. Even after having built a successful organization, a large team, earned several promotions, trips, and thousands of dollars- something was missing. After much prayer and wise counsel, I realized that there was more for me. So after five years invested, I walked away from my direct sales business, and into the arms of ministry, women’s ministry.
Women’s ministry allowed me to channel the love I’d developed for leading women and couple it with intentional ministry. Through speaking engagements all over the country, nationwide retreats with intimate groups of women, and building my network, I was able to commune with hundreds of women in close environments- inspiring, impacting, and influencing them as I’d felt was my call. This was my call for two years.
All of this came to a culminating journey in the fall of 2018, when the roots planted by the seeds of the prior seven years began to form. My experience, my training, and my journey with direct sales coupled with my ministry experience melded together to form my ultimate and current project, Sanctuary Girl.
Sanctuary Girl is a direct sales company like no other. Our mission is to equip, empower, and embolden women to share their faith stories with a company and a product line that stands behind them. Our product, our processes, and our people speak nothing but life and truth to women all over the country. We choose to be a light in a very dark world via direct sales. We touch women right where they are, in their homes. All of the culminating experiences led to where I am now, allowing me to use every lesson learned, every gift I’ve been assigned, and every passion I’ve had downloaded into me to be realized, affecting thousands… I couldn’t be any happier.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been far from smooth. We started this company in what we thought would be the most responsible way: by limiting our consultant enrollment to a meager 300. What we didn’t bank on was our 300 smashing goals left and right! They came out the gate booking socials, selling product, and sharing our vision with hundreds. Some of our struggles included learning about product deficiencies, inventory demands we could not project, along with technical difficulties that showed us severe gaps in our process. An immense obstacle was overcoming the all-too-familiar power of the internet and the search bar, enabling not-so-graceful customers to expose some of our product as .available via other channels. These obstacles, while many, helped us to identify weaknesses that needed to be addressed if we were to succeed.
Please tell us about Sanctuary Girl.
Sanctuary Girl is a direct sales, party-plan based company. Our mission is to equip, empower, and embolden women to share their faith stories with a product and company that backs them up. Through the direct sales model, women are able to enroll as consultants with our company, represent our mission and vision, and market our product to not only grow their own direct sales organizations but to add to their household income through building a team and promoting up our compensation plan.
Sanctuary Girl is known for its products and vision, which all speak life and truth. Every accessory offered in our catalog bears either Scripture from the Bible or secular inspiration. Our goal is to provide a product line that will open the door for women to converse about faith, encouragement, and how they feel about themselves.
I am most proud that our company aims to change the game when it comes to direct sales, making it less about income possibilities, and more about impact possibilities. We believe that the more women make an impact on one another, that the more they will want to continue to make an impact on others, fueling the desire to grow and run a successful business under our covering. We are proud of the fact that women are feeling like their stories are worth sharing, that they are seen, and that they can improve the life of another without having to be social media famous, wealthy, or well-known. This sets apart by giving all women equal footing from the start, simply because they have decided to be an agent of change in a world that needs it badly.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over, I would have accrued more capital to begin. Resources to sustain an inventory-driven business are a must. Thankfully, our foundational consultant base has given us what we need over the beginning season, but it definitely would have been nice to have a strong financial base before starting.
