Meet Sandora Petty of College Park, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandora Petty.

Hi Sandora, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Many people know me as a Visual artist. I’ve loved art, history, and literature since I was very young. I’ll say that at the age of 13-15 I started manifesting the person I’d like to become. Also, spiritually soul searching connecting to my ancestral practices, owning my queerness and creating my own bodies of work. It has not been an easy journey at all. At the end of last year (2025)I decided I’d go full throttle and invest in myself again. I have always been talented, but it seems my humility has been mistaken for weakness over the years, causing me to play it small. That changes 2026-2027. So everyone can expect to see more from me soon fitness, modeling, studying anthropology etc..

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not I’d be lying if I said this is easy. I just make it look good. I’ve battled depression, survived a suicide attempt, a car wreck that wrecked my nerve system /spinal cord, overcoming homelessness, Alcholism ,losing my mother even survived a multitude of abuse. I’m saying all that to say it does get better and community is important. Talk to someone, get a therapist join a support group. There are free options and resources even if you’re low income ,Do things you love, get a hobby always have something to look forward to!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I was in high school, I was known for traditional art, including painting, drawing, poetry, and even tattooing myself. However, art supplies can be expensive. So, when I graduated a few years later, Procreate became popular, and I saved up to buy a phone capable of drawing on. Then, in May 2025, I upgraded to an iPad. Now, I do digital art 99% of the time. I use different types of digital paints after I sketch to create whatever is in my imagination. I am most proud of the gift given to me by a higher power and my ancestors, as well as my ability to persevere. My name doesn’t translate to “warrior” for no reason.
I believe my spirit separates me from others.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the culture, the art , the music, the wings ,the queers, the artists down to dancers, the elders, and the rise of youngsters turning to spirituality.

I dislike the remodeling and gentrification that’s leaving the natives homeless, the gun violence, and the lack of community in some areas. We also need more funds being poured into the homeless elderly programs. My mother died waiting for benefits. Also the competitiveness to be famous or known. There’s enough money for everyone to eat if we break bread, vote locally and just help one another. I also dislike the street organizations have lost the plot. It’s not cool or P to murder the young and innocent the point is to give back and serve the community.
