Meet Sharice Lenay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharice Lenay.

Sharice, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a little bitty girl, I used to watch my mom-mom get dressed for the day. She’d powder her cheeks, put on a stunning coat (my fav was her fur shaw) and add red lipstick as a finishing touch. A night, while she’d watch Golden Girls, I’d sit on her vanity chair and mimic her moves. I’d powder my chest with her huge powder puff and layer her brightest red lipstick across my tiny lips.

My mom was just like my mom-mom when it came to getting herself ready. From her chic 80’s hairstyles to her mule style shoes, I couldn’t wait to be able to dress like my mom, so when Christmas came around, I always asked for the plastic princess heels from Toys R Us, so I could walk around the house like my mommy. Lol.

That’s how it all started. I learned that a great foundation for a styl-ista, was a great outfit, a killer fragrance, and a statement lip. I follow those steps today. I’ve learned how to be a lady from the women in my life. And from there, a style maven was born.

In high school, I wasn’t the most girlie of girls, yet I still remained fashionable. Scoring school superlatives as best dress in middle and high school, I always felt like I had to look the part.

I started modeling for at 15. Small gigs like Davids Bridal prom and fashion bug. Later on, Hair Shows like Bronner Brothers for Tammy Roman’s hairline and local fashion shows.

Makeup crept its way into my life. I started working for MAC Cosmetics back in 2013 as a freelancer in NJ and become permanent in 2015 when I moved here to Atlanta. Working with celebrities and seeing how makeup transforms any bad mood into a Superwoman, being able to assist in a woman’s best self-created such joy within me. Beauty and fashion are what drives me to be my most creative, me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When trying to find yourself, and putting yourself out there, you cross different bridges and obstacles. The fear of becoming uncomfortable starts to levy its disposition. But you can’t let that stop you from reaching your goals. Not many things in life are smooth. In fact, it’s very bumpy at times. My late grandfather instilled in us at an early age that giving up was not an option. Still, today, I have a positive and very motivational support system that pushes me past any hardship. Failure happens, and that’s okay. But we must keep going. Like I tell my brother, “Chin up, keep going.”

I have published a book recently “Whispers Of a Roving Love” and with that, I’ve gotten rejected from different publishers. Articles, I’ve written haven’t gotten any feedback from editors. I haven’t gotten callbacks from tv shows I auditioned for. But I can’t complain because I’ve had great responses too! The great definitely outweighs the bad.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Sharice Lenay is a brand – I am a brand. I like to think of myself as a Jill of all trades. I am a style creator, author/writer, and Beauty/fashion influencer. And with those talents, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity of becoming a Broadcast Affiliate for television’s newest fashion and beauty network, E’Mage on Demand!

On this platform, I will soon have a show-“The Sheek Diaries.” I will be providing exceptional fashion and beauty content in a more affordable, yet stylish and Sheek way. I plan on taking my viewers on a journey, showing people that your style comes from within, and can be transformed from things we already have in our closets.

Most people, including my younger self, felt that we need the top name brands to be fashionable. But that is far from reality. And I think it’s very imperative that we learn how to be stylish, fashionable, swaggy, swanky, and Sheek in our own ways.

I am truly excited about this opportunity, and I have great hopes of spreading my brand and aspire to collaborate with the best creators and companies.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been blessed!! And I could not have gotten as far as I am without God and prayer. I don’t have the best of luck. I am very clumsy, so, that right there tells me that luck has nothing to do with anything. Haha!

I am human. And like everyone else, good and bad things happen. That’s life’s inevitability. And I refuse to focus on what unfortunate things come my way. Do I wish I had a magic wand, of course, I do! But, I’ve learned that with consistency, hard work, and dedication, I can accomplish anything.
