Meet Shavonne “Konfident Miss Bling” Owens of Bling Radio Show in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shavonne “Konfident Miss Bling” Owens.

Shavonne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In Nov. of 2005, I started my journey in media at Illinois Center for Broadcasting in Lombard, Illinois. While attending school, I was working on creating my radio name and the name for my radio show. Miss Bling is the name a childhood friend gave me because she stated, “My personality bling’s” and this new radio name fits me perfectly because of I bling from the inside out. I liked it and stuck with it. From that point, I became Miss Bling, and Bling Radio Show was created in the Hip Hop Studio of ICB. My school was the best of both worlds because I was able to learn radio and television at the same time. I came in wanting to do radio, but I took an interest in television as well. During my broadcasting journey, I learned that I was enjoying everything taught to me from both tv and radio. I loved writing, directing and my instructor made me the entertainment reporter of our class because she stated, “my personality stood out and would be great as an entertainment reporter”. Once I graduated in April 2007, I spent most of the summer trying to find my niche in media. I searched high and low for an internet radio site that would fit my personality. Out of all of the internet radio websites I researched, I found Blog Talk Radio.

Everything about this site was so fresh! On September 4th, 2007 the Bling Radio Show was created in my basement apartment on the Westside of Chicago. I started everything from scratch being the music director, host, talent coordinator, and more with interviewing local artists, businesses, entertainers, and entrepreneurs. Seandale Hunley, the Program Director asked me to do the entertainment report for his show Raw Radio in 2010. I had to create a name for my segment and that’s where the Blingy 411 report brand was birthed.

Fast forward to 12 years later… since 2007, my name has been upgraded to Konfident Miss Bling because I have remained confident and consistent in this business from day one. I’ve been blessed to interview people from my block, my neighborhood, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally! I’ve traveled across the country with my brand. I’ve interviewed some of your and my favorite entertainers and businesses globally. My brand has taken me to places I would have never imagined to be. Early 2019, I added Reality Star to my resume. I was the newest family member on TLC’s, Family By The Ton which was a weight-loss reality show where they followed my entire weight loss journey. During filming my Konfident Lifestyle Journey, I was able to highlight my brand Bling Radio Show by conducting an interview with an entertainer here in Atlanta.

Bling Radio Show has done media coverage for corporations such as Red Bull, Organic Root Stimulators, to name a few. Konfident Miss Bling has done media corresponding for the NASA, the Bronner Brothers Hair Show, Essence Fest, many other red carpet events across the country. Bling Radio Show hosted over 1,500+ radio shows, conducted and interviewed over 2000 amazing individuals around the world. Bling Radio Show was celebrated one week every year from Sept. 1st-7th. Miss Bling’s World week which started in Chicago, Illinois, is now celebrated here annually in Atlanta, Georgia.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. When I decided to enroll in broadcasting school many were saying, “yes that fits you and I can see you doing so well in entertainment”. On the other hand, it was people who were telling me that me doing radio and being in entertainment was stupid. There was many days I wanted to quit. Doing internet radio independently was very hard because I had to find my own sponsors. I would tell people that Bling Radio is my baby and this is my labor of love. My Mom, whom I called Mama Bling was my biggest supporter until her untimely death. I did take a break for a while to deal with the loss of my Mom. I came back strong, ready to win and make my mother proud of my forthcoming accomplishments within my career in media and entertainment.

Please tell us about Bling Radio Show.
Bling Radio has multiple babies that were created in media, fitness, and fashion. From the brand, my online boutique I Bling It All was created where I customize accessories and apparel with Swarovski crystals and high-end rhinestones. Also, my Public Relations firm, I Am Konfident Agency was created to assist my clients with PR and marketing for their projects. This was created from me doing all of the publicity for every project for my brands and receiving extreme results. What sets me apart from others is that I’m also known as the Gatekeeper of Media which means I am connected to people in many places and gets the job done. No matter if they are connected to me directly or indirectly, I make sure the mission is completed and accomplished. I started with freelancing, marketing and built brands of many restaurants, artists, entertainers, and media personalities. Today, I assist my clients with building their brands the grassroots way by building a konfident campaign to grow their businesses, brands, and projects.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory is when I had company over and would create fashion shows or talent shows with my friends and family. We would entertain our friends or family with the routine we came up with near the end of the day.
I enjoyed entertaining others since I was a kid. I also remember when I was about five years old, I always wanted to know how to get on the other side of the radio. I was very intrigued by people talking on the radio. I was always told over the years, I would be great a doing radio and I’ve now been hosting radio shows the last 12 years.
