Meet Shirley Su of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley Su.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started a number of years ago with my latest addition to my educational adventure at Savannah College of Art and Design MFA Illustrations program not too long after the pandemic. After that, I had decided to venture into the ever-growing and popular customized pet and non-pet portrait space: https://sushirley.com/portrait-commission-corner. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At times, life outside of work takes priority which delays a number of marketing/promotional efforts. However, they can be handled in time. One of the struggles is the minimal number of indoor art markets in our area. Most of them take place either out of state or very far into the city, which inhibits optimal event participation.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Aside from my love for hot food and oatmeals, I create illustrations in both vector and non-vector style utilizing colors and at times, texture for both individual and non individual clients. My work features people, animals and beyond. It also ranges from minimalistic to soothing colorful light-hearted illustrations. I also believe style versatility is my strength in fulfilling the vision of each of my client’s projects, which I believe sets me apart from others. An important fact for everyone to know is that I am considered by many clients to be a reliable, punctual, and pleasant individual to collaborate with.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I truly believe kindness, patience, and perseverance are the characteristics most important to my success. Treat others like how you would like to be treated. There are only a few lucky ones who can skyrocket overnight. Many tend to overlook all the difficulties and challenges those successful individuals had to overcome in the past.
