Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaquille Johnson.
Shaquille, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I found my interest in music in the early years around four or five playing the drums at this church I used to go to in Scottdale. My fascination for rap and rnb music comes from spending summers down in Albany, GA watching my cousins and uncle doing their own music.
I never really thought about doing music seriously until about nine years old I was in a group with one of my best friends Damonte, we would just write our songs and just do them around the house or over the phone with girls from our class. My stepdad took us to the studio for the first time and after that, it was a full passion in dream. Around 2008 is when I linked up with Tylo Bravo; I can honestly say that was the best thing for me he showed me how to really enhance my craft as far as writing, arranging, and just confidence with my artistry.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest struggle was in the early years of trying to record and put out music and having to come with the realization like this is trash. In high school we had this lable/group called PHE; It was about 5 or 7 of us that would be in a room just recording and trying to get on a beat or just get on somebody else track so when the beat have 2-3 verses you got to try to out-write everybody in the room. At that time my verses wasn’t good enough to get put on the song and as artist that can make you feel some type of way. This was around the time of 2009-2011 so the following summer I did no recording I just took that time to perfect my writing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sinatra1685 – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Most of my music is known to tell stories from personal struggle, relationships or a dope night out in the city. I can say I’m most proud of the response and acceptance of my music.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about my city is leading the culture, the fact people have to come here to get put on instead of the times you would have to go to a New York or LA. What I like least is sometimes people from around where you at feel like supporting you will hold them back when its enough money out here for everybody.
