Meet Sonja Cooper of Seven C’s Farm in Powder Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonja Cooper.

Sonja, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Seven C’s began in 2002 when we built a boutique-sized stable in Powder Springs, about 40 minutes from downtown Atlanta. We began offering boarding to people who lived in Atlanta but didn’t want to trek to Alpharetta and John’s Creek where much of the equine industry is located. Our proximity to the metro area and offering high-end care with lots of green pastures for the horses to stay healthy physically and mentally is what makes us unique. Specifically, each horse has over an acre to graze, something unheard of so close to the city. Our care is unparalleled and the atmosphere is one that is very friendly, very caring.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Opening a boarding stable had a steep learning curve, definitely. But the equine community was extremely helpful. Phone calls to other barn operators were always met with real efforts to help me find good hay, suggestions on efficient operating, how to determine if a 53-foot semi-trailer could turn around in my barnyard and the myriad other areas that make up caring for horses and their owners. The most enjoyable part of my job is walking into the barn and seeing the boarders, talking with them, sharing the ups and downs of riding and competing. The boarders are the jewels of Seven C’s.

Seven C’s Farm – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Seven C’s cares for your horse completely. When a potential boarder comes to visit the farm, they are told that they can move to Europe and their horse will be completely cared for in their absence. Beside the high quality of care, we offer lessons in dressage, jumping and three-day eventing, We have trails on the property as well if a trail ride is what is needed to wind down after a long day. What I am most proud of is the peace of mind people feel leaving their horses in our care as well as the atmosphere of the barn. People feel welcome and liked because they are. The care, the kind atmosphere and the proximity to Atlanta is what sets Seven C’s apart.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is defined by happy customers. When a person drives through our gates and gets a sense of relief, as if something nice is now happening to them by driving in, then Seven C’s has done its job. I am regularly told by my customers that they come here and find a sense of peace here. What creates that peace is kind, honest treatment of people and horses, quality feeds and hay, an organized barn, and a beautiful setting. That’s what makes Seven C’s different.
