Today we’d like to introduce you to Stinesha Ferguson.
Hi Stinesha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for asking. The foundation for Burgess Elite Care is deeply rooted in my personal life and family. I was fortunate to be around my late mother, who was a nurse that passed during COVID. I watched her tirelessly care for our family, her friends and her patients, and that experience instilled in me a profound appreciation for compassionate, hands-on care.
Later, when my father passed away, I knew I wanted to create a meaningful legacy that would honor him. I named the company Burgess Elite Care specifically to keep his name alive and ensure that the values of exceptional, dedicated care we practice every day are also a reflection of his memory as well as hers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To be completely honest, the road has not been smooth, but I would absolutely describe it as a powerful learning experience. Many of our most significant early obstacles came during the process of getting fully licensed through the state of Georgia.
It was a challenging process, mainly due to a few key areas: a lack of clear communication from state agencies, which often led to having to complete tasks or submit information multiple times; and the difficulty of navigating the complex web of rules and regulations without a dedicated resource. At the time, there wasn’t a clear guide or person to really lean on for help during the licensing journey. However, overcoming those challenges gave us an in-depth understanding of compliance and operational resilience, which is now a cornerstone of Burgess Elite Care.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As the owner of Burgess Elite Care, my work is centered on providing truly personalized, high-quality non-medical home care services. We specialize in helping clients maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life in the comfort of their own homes. We are known for our commitment to compassionate care and for treating every client not just as a patient, but as a member of our extended family.
What I am most proud of is the simple fact of sticking to the journey and never giving up. Launching a homecare agency, especially navigating the rigorous licensing process in Georgia, came with significant obstacles. The resolve to push through those challenges, keep learning, and remain focused on our mission is what built the foundation we stand on today.
What truly sets us apart is that deep, personal mission—the very reason for the name Burgess Elite Care. My inspiration came from watching my mother, a nurse, and the desire to honor my father’s memory. This means our commitment is not just business; it is personal. We deliver ‘Elite Care’ by ensuring a dedicated, respectful, and highly professional experience that reflects the values of family and uncompromising support.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
While I don’t follow any single blog or app religiously, I have found that my best resource is a combination of self-awareness tools and professional community engagement.
For professional development, I strongly believe in the power of Mentoring and Peer Networks. Being a leader can be isolating, and connecting with other small business owners or industry veterans to share challenges and ideas is invaluable.
For personal growth and self-awareness, I’m a fan of exploring things like personality assessments, such as the 16 Personalities framework. Understanding my own decision-making style and how to best communicate with different types of people is crucial for managing staff and engaging with clients.
And finally, I use certain Professional Development Tools to stay sharp. For instance, continually learning through online courses or even practicing how to frame complex situations using structured communication methods like the STAR Method helps ensure that I’m always communicating clearly and developing professionally.
