Meet Summer Azul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Azul.

Hi Summer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I turned my viral DIY videos into a lifestyle, launched a fashion line and built the first urban off grid community of tiny homes and cabins. I started creating DIY videos during the pandemic to spread positivity on timelines. I called the series, #MySuperQuarantinedLife and it is now in its 2nd season on Facebook and Instagram. My video DIY projects are unique because I use my filmmaking & Musical background to create entertaining post to captivate and inspire others. I use hiphop music and I dance, sing, use power tools and swing swords all while displaying a smile on my face. After going viral several times on Facebook, my followers begin to grow daily and they became interested in all the various things that I do. I took this opportunity and turned into something bigger than I could have never imagined. I wanted to turn my super-quarantined life into a lifestyle that everyone else could adapt to.

I was just a girl with a dream to change the world, and now I am a women with the power to do it. Before the pandemic, my life consisted of being a mom and and an entertainer. I spent most of my time traveling, filming documentaries and being on set with my 6 year old daughter (Autumn Azul) who has been acting her entire life. Before having my daughter I had also pursued a career in entertainment as an actress, rapper and model. I traveled the world on tours, won many international music & acting awards, and gained a loyal fan base that I lovingly named Azul Army. I was admired for my talent and hard work ethic, but internally, I was not satisfied. I didn’t feel as though, I was completing my true life mission.

As a child, I always wanted to have an impact on the world. My idols were Oprah Winfrey, Harriet Tubman and Josephine Baker. All of whom were women who not only achieved things far beyond what was expected of them, but they also helped others as well. That was exactly what I wanted to do. So I chose to go the route of being an entertainer, in hopes of one day reaching millions of people.

Needless to say, my life changed when the pandemic arrived. I was forced to stay home, rethink my life and create new goals.

I started posting videos of myself renovating my home, creating art and designing shoes & clothes. Soon after, I had thousands of people asking me where they could buy my pants, and if they could take a DIY class with me. This inspired me launch my new fashion line “Azul ClassicS” and release my Genie Pants, that I comfortably wear in many of my DIY videos. I also started my “Fun & Fly D.I.Y” sessions in which I provide paid live online classes as well as bookings at live events.

All these things give me an avenue to teach, help and inspire others. I receive so many messages from people telling me how I have made positive change in their life and their ways of thinking. The biggest and most satisfying thing for me though is the fact that I created an actual community. I started the “Summerville Village” community development to build an off-grid community of like-minded people. I am helping people learn how to grow their own food, own their own land and live in peace with a community of others all willing to help one another. The first Summerville Village sold out of land lots within 48 hours of my post about the idea, and I am now working on Summerville Village 2 due to the overwhelming response. In addition to all of this, I also teach my followers (Azul Army) about self love and self reflection, because I believe everything starts from within. THIS is my true life purpose and I am living the dream that I have always had. Creating generational wealth, helping others and leaving my impact on the world.

My life motto is “Whatever you do… BE EPIC!” and I live by those words everyday.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I face many obstacles in my life. Being a single mom is a challenge all on its own, but I also have medical conditions which limit my abilities to do as much as I’d like to do at times. Many people see my videos and say that I do amazing things, they even call me Super Woman, but there are many days when I can’t even get out of bed because of pain caused my my Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). I was just diagnosed with RA in the beginning of 2020 so I had been suffering with the effect os this autoimmune disease without knowing the reason for some time. It causes severe pain in my hands, back and feet which enables me to stand up, hold an object or even sit up straight without falling to tears. Luckily I have found natural ways to help combat this and other medical conditions I am placed with.

My new lifestyle (My Super Quarantined Life) has bought the survival mode inside of me into full action and I am now doing things like growing foods and herbs that will help my body heal. I built a sauna in my backyard so that I can relieve pain, reduce stress and loose weight. All the things that I once thought one doctors and medicines could assist with, are conveniently located in my backyard! This is why I am building communities based off of my own lifestyle. I want other people to learn how to be self-sufficient and live better lives as well.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson that I have learned, is that not everyone will be happy for you. No matter how much good that you do for people, someone will have something negative to say. I have had people say/comment so many mean things, makeup lies and even try to spread rumors about me. I have even had a government worker try to get me kicked out of programs that I have had to utilize because of my disability.

Instead of being mad at these people, or letting myself become upset, I prayed about and it enlightened me. I understand that people hurt other people based off of the reflection of what they are hurting about on the inside. So if someone is hurt because they don’t like themselves, then they will lash out by saying something they don’t like about themselves to someone else. For instance, body shaming or calling someone ugly, it helps them feel better about themselves. Another example is, if someone wishes that had a talent that someone else posses they will try to point out a fault, like saying Lebron James didn’t have a ring in his early years, although he was a phenomenal basketball player, they wanted to point out something that will make him less accomplished because they weren’t happy with their own accomplishments. It’s a natural human trait that we need to make ourselves aware of so we can all adjust and make changes in the way that we treat each other. I teach my followers a lot about self-reflection and self-love to help make this change possible.

This enlightenment helped me to feel empathy for anyone trying to hurt me, and it also validates that I am doing something great, because if I weren’t doing anything at all…. well, they wouldn’t have anything to say!
