Meet Suzi Watkins of Root Revival Hair Restoration

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suzi Watkins.

Hi suzi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been in the hair industry since 1990, so this has never just been a job for me. I started as a hairstylist, focused on helping people look their best, but over time I kept seeing the same concern come up… thinning, shedding, and hair just not growing the way it used to. Clients wanted answers, and I didn’t feel like I had enough of them.
Then it became personal. I went through a period of traumatic hair loss myself, and that completely changed my perspective. It made me realize how much this affects someone beyond just appearance. That experience pushed me to dig deeper and find real solutions, not quick fixes.
I went on to become a board-certified trichologist and shifted my focus into hair loss and scalp health. From there, everything I’ve built has been centered around getting people results. It all begins with a clinical hair and scalp assessment. I assess and test, I don’t guess. I use advanced hair-focused testing, including DNA and epigenetic insights, and I’m now incorporating polarized microscopy to look even deeper at what’s happening at the scalp level.
From there, I’m able to choose the right therapies for each person, whether that’s supporting circulation and growth signaling, improving absorption of topicals, balancing the scalp environment, or addressing internal factors. When you understand the root cause and treat it correctly, that’s when people start to see less shedding, stronger hair, and real regrowth.
And for clients who need something right away while we’re working through that process, I also offer alternative hair solutions like custom toppers and wigs, so they can feel confident now, not months from now.
Today, I focus fully on trichology and hair restoration, helping clients finally get answers and a clear plan forward based on what their body actually needs.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but it has been the most rewarding experience of my life.
There is so much to learn in this field, and I’ve never stopped. I’m constantly investing in clinical studies, advanced training, and new technologies so I can get better results for my clients. I always say, when you know better, you do better. And in this field, I’m learning something new all the time, which means I’m always refining and readjusting my protocols and therapies so my clients are getting the most current, proven approaches.
In the beginning, I was working out of a traditional salon, and I quickly realized that environment didn’t support the kind of work I was doing. Hair loss is very personal, and clients need privacy. I moved into a private suite, which was a big step in the right direction, but before long I outgrew that space too. As I brought in more therapies, devices, and tools, I needed room to actually function the way I wanted to. That led to expanding into a larger space where I now have a dedicated waiting area, treatment rooms, and the ability to have everything I need in one place.
Another big shift was bringing my husband into the business full time. He handles the behind-the-scenes work like charting, recording, and keeping everything running on the business side. It became clear pretty quickly that his role was essential, and he needed his own space to do that work efficiently. He’s there every day making sure everything runs the way it should so I can stay focused on my clients.
And on a personal level, I’ve had to work through imposter syndrome. Trichology sits in a unique space alongside the medical community, and for me that’s been more of an internal challenge than anything else. I’m very clear on my role. I focus on the scalp and the follicle, assessing what’s happening and making informed recommendations, not diagnosing medical conditions. I truly believe the best outcomes happen when we work together, and I would love to collaborate more with local dermatologists, dieticians, and functional medicine doctors. Hair loss is rarely just one thing, and my goal this year is to build a strong local network so I can better support my clients from every angle.
Every one of these experiences has shaped how I run my business today. It’s pushed me to stay curious, keep learning, and continue raising the standard of care so my clients get real answers and real results.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Root Revival Hair Restoration is a trichology-based practice focused on getting real answers and real results for people dealing with hair loss, thinning, and scalp concerns. Everything begins with a clinical hair and scalp assessment so I can understand what’s actually driving the issue, because no two cases are the same. I’m known for my test, don’t guess approach, using advanced hair-focused testing and in-depth evaluation to guide each plan. From there, I combine targeted therapies, scalp-focused treatments, and internal support to help reduce shedding, improve hair quality, and support consistent regrowth over time. I also offer custom alternative hair solutions like toppers and wigs for clients who want immediate confidence while we work on the long-term plan. What sets my brand apart is the level of personalization and education. My clients understand what’s happening, why we’re doing what we’re doing, and what to expect. I’m most proud of creating a space where people feel heard, supported, and finally have a clear path forward instead of trying one thing after another with no direction.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is that even though I work in hair restoration and help others through it every day, I’ve actually experienced traumatic hair loss myself. Most people see the results I help create now, but they don’t always realize that this became deeply personal for me before it became my specialty.
Another thing is how much of my time goes into studying and refining what I do behind the scenes. I’m constantly in clinical trainings, reviewing data, and adjusting protocols. What people see in the treatment room is very intentional, but there’s a lot that happens outside of it to make sure what I’m offering is current, effective, and truly tailored.
And on a more personal note, this business is very much a family effort. My husband works in it full time, managing the backend, charting, and operations so everything runs smoothly. That support has been a huge part of being able to grow and do this work at the level I do.
