Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamila Urazayeva.
Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. You can include as little or as much detail as you’d like.
I graduated with a degree in International Finance and started my career as a tax professional working for Big 4 accounting firms in Atlanta, GA, gained international exposure in London, U.K. and Almaty, Kazakhstan. However, I have always been very passionate and curious about overall wellness and nutrition. To pursue my passion I decided to undertake further studies in wellness and nutrition and graduated from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. Since establishing a private integrative nutrition health coaching practice in 2013, I have worked with dozens of business professionals, working Moms and several top executives. I have also delivered numerous wellness presentations at companies like Coca-Cola Enterprises, Trader Joe’s, Sprouts and others.
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The transition from finance to nutrition was rather seamless and organic as it was my personal goal and passion. I was always keen on gaining a stronger understanding on overall health & wellness and it felt very important for raising my own family.
I believe that my upbringing also fueled my passion, and even though my mother had a traditional medical background, she taught me early on that food can be used as medicine and it can be a source and a supplement to support the overall wellbeing, limiting the need for conventional medicine. I enjoyed cooking with her and learned that the quality of the food and the love that you put in preparing it always pays off. Having moved to the U.S., I could not quite embrace the “convenience food” concept, hence, I had to find local farmers markets for grocery shopping to feel closer to my roots.
While working in a high pace corporate environment I tried to maintain and manage the energy levels with healthy foods as much as it was practical. After nearly a 6 year international career in the financial services I left to focus on my family and what I loved the most. I researched and read numerous books on wellness and nutrition, took meditation courses and was ready to take the next step when I signed up to study at The Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
One of the key challenges for me has been the transition from working for a large multinational company to owning my business. If a large organization may seem running like a well-oiled machine with the required resources and extensive support structure such as information technology, marketing, human resources and others, I had to scale and master various competencies to support my own business.
Tell us about your business/company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
To summarize:
- I am a Certified Health Coach in Integrative Nutrition and a wellness expert,
- I run my private coaching practice EasyStepsWellness, and also work with an integrative medical doctor’s practice in Atlanta,
- I do a lot of educational & awareness programs on nutrition, smart grocery shopping, various wellness practices,
- I am currently writing my book
which entails easy and healthy recipes and tips that helped me and dozens of my clients to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyle habits. I plan to get it published early next year.
I am a strong believer that food plays a critical role in your health and overall wellbeing but it’s JUST one of the main components. As an example, you may eat lots of kale and drink plenty of water, but not having sufficient sleep would not give the right balance, nor would it make you feel vibrant or energized. I do not advocate on any specific diet, but rather focus on food quality and lifestyle choices that work for a particular person. Wellness in everything we do – Eat Well, Travel Well & Live Well – is what I personally strive for and inspire my friends and my clients to pursue.
Given my international background I have been coaching clients across the globe and with today’s technology it makes it rather easy to work and coach virtually.
I find that small and easy steps in upgrading nutrition and lifestyle usually work much better than radical changes, and bring more positive and sustainable long term results.
If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
This far it has been an exciting and interesting journey and I have been very fortunate by living and working in different countries across the globe which has connect me with many wonderful people. I learned a lot along the way and it has given me a much boarder perspective on health and wellness that I apply in my practice.
