Meet Tammie Peterson of Capturing The Moments Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammie Peterson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I became interest in Photography in the late 90’s finding an old camera of my great-grandfather and in the early 2000’s is when I acquired my first digital camera. I began capturing many family functions and gatherings and enjoyed sharing the images and creating a catalog of memories for the family. So, I basically began my photography journey, as the Family Photographer. In the Spring of 2008, I was laid-off from my job and during this time I began learning more about the Photography field and in the Spring of the following year, I came across this new restaurant/lounge that was opening up down the street from me and I went there to inquire about whether or not they had a House Photographer and if not, to sell the idea. The owner happen to be available and the meeting was a success and I was offer the opportunity to be the restaurant/lounge’s Photographer. I would take photos of couples and then sell them the image in a nice photo folder frame. I did this job on Friday and Saturday nights and rarely took a night off, but occasionally I did. During this time, I met many wonderful people and patrons of the restaurant who would later become clients and wonderful friends. After about a year and half, I left and began to further and expand my photography in other areas of work. I began to focus on Events and Photo Shoots. In 2012, I established a monthly membership with a Photo Studio in Alpharetta and began to do Portrait work which allow me now the opportunity to do Photo Shoots, another area of Photography that I was excited about evolving in. Well, I didn’t stop there, I soon began doing Concert photography many music artist, and from there Red Carpet Photography for many well-known yearly events such as The Soul Train Awards in 2015 and The Trumpet Awards 2016 and 2017 (held in Atlanta yearly).

I love what I do and have a strong artistic passion for Photography and capturing important moments for people. In this life, a visual record is important. It’s always important have someone document moments or events. I always want to be a wonderful storyteller with my events that I do for clients. I always try ensure my photography capture moments and that they capture the mood of what’s going on at that moment. My philosophy is photographs add visual and human context to the moment. Thus, the name of my business–“Capturing The Moments Photography-TS, T.S. stands for Tammie and my maiden of Spivey, at the time of me starting the business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Well, there are times when I won’t have any work for a period of time and times I would have lots. It just depends on what’s happens in people’s lives and the time of the year. I’m mainly blessed with having a lot of referral work. Many of my clients are referral base and that’s such a wonderful thing because you don’t have to work as much to advertise. However, I always believe in making your own opportunities.

Capturing The Moments Photography-TS – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My photography service is based on my passion and the belief that my customers’ needs are of the utmost importance when it comes to capturing moments in their lives. I am committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of my business is from repeat customers and referrals. My photography website is called “Capturing the Moments” because, I love sharing time with people who have a love for art, nature, family and entertainment.

The excitement of the capture and the creation of a memorable moment in time is the thrill and the blessing that photography brings. Within those moments are opportunities for thought, remembrances of places, smells, feelings and more. Relying on the sight of my eyes through a small lens, finding that special moment that is captured for a lifetime, has always been my passion. As a photographer, I seek those things, places or people that tell a story. With experience, I enjoy seeing the vast amount of possibilities in the world of photography.” Capturing images and memories is a passion for me, not a job! And my philosophy and thought, Cameras don’t take pictures, Photographers do. Cameras are just another artist’s tool. The single most important component of a camera is the “person” behind it.

When it comes to actually interacting with my subject or talent, I am all “heart”. I make my subjects feel relaxed and comfortable on set, I give those lots of encouraging compliments, and tell them how excited I am to work with them. If it’s a model or actress, then I’ll compliment them on their work, let them know that I’m familiar with them, and thank them for coming. A lot of people mostly women, walk onto the set and they’re anxious or intimidated, so I start by telling them exactly what I have in mind for the shoot that day. I want them to know me like a friend. My number one goal is to convey to the people that I’m photographing that I sincerely care about them. I want to photograph you so that you look like no one has ever seen you before. That sentiment comes from me and my heart. I always try to make a personal connection with everyone that I work with. I would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and deliver you the best photography service. So give me a call when you’re ready for your moment to be captured!

I think what sets me apart from others, is my ability of doing work in many areas such as Portraiture, Events, Photo Shoots, and Red Carpet. I’m mainly known for my Event work.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success when I can look back see the abundance of work I have done and realize a majority of the work has been through the blessing of referrals. One blessing after another keeps flowing to me. I don’t have a criteria, I just go with the flow and pray.
