Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany James.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2012, I was laid off from my job as a teacher. In my despair, I began to create what was then known as Cute as a Button. I started off making button earrings, and although I found it lucrative and a great creative outlet… I knew I had more to give to the world. Graphic tees have always been kinda go to fashion statement. Although I used to purchase them quite often, I never found ones that made bold enough statements. I decided to learn how to create the vision I wanted to see. From that moment, I birthed CAAB Customs, a culturally ratchet apparel shop catered to black pop culture.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been far from easy but it has been well worth it. I’ve had many highs and lows while trying to establish this brand but being true to my vision and staying focused on the goals has helped push me through the dark moments. The most recent struggle turned victory was being able to walk away from my job as an educator of over 11 years. Being a full-time entrepreneur has been the most rewarding part of my journey thus far.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with CAAB Customs – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Creativity brings me so much joy! With ideas flourishing instantaneously, my challenge lies in how to take a piece I’ve envisioned and turn it into reality. I most enjoy making custom pieces that not only complement your beauty but bring positivity, joy and a hint of ratchetness. CAAB customs creates limited edition, unique pieces that are bold and eye-catching. We keep our pulse on all things pop culture.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that the city is full of creatives! You never know who you’re going to encounter. It’s the city that never sleeps. What I least like about the city is the traffic. OMG on any given day, you can find yourself sitting in traffic for hours to only go 4 miles.
