Meet Tracey Williamson of The Creator’s Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracey Williamson. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Our story started in a Home Economics classroom in a small-town high school when Joyce found her love for sewing. With her teacher’s (Ms. Wilson) help, she began to sew dresses for her mother and grandmother. She would make prom and wedding dresses and later introduced her daughter to the art of sewing. Joyce shared her love for sewing with her daughter Tracey. She taught Tracey some fundamentals and techniques when Tracey was a teenager. As time passed, Tracey did not pursue sewing frequently. During the 2020 pandemic, Tracey’s interest peeked again with sewing. She needed masks and Joyce began to remind her of her sewing skills. Since this time, they have continued to sew daily. Their conversations changed into how they could share their love for sewing with others. The Creator’s Studio was born out of a mother and daughter’s shared love for sewing. Our goal is to teach others how to make their very own wardrobe, accessories, and home décor. We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams, use their creative skills to help others, and to build self-confidence.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Anytime you are trying to build a business, there is nothing smooth about it. At every level of life, we are challenged with new obstacles and issues. These challenges are not here to deter us or cause us to give up. But rather, we believe challenges are valuable lessons to learn important skills. Establishing a business has been fun, exciting, nerve-racking, confusing, and frustrating. However, all of these emotions are worth every bit of operating our small business. There is so much joy in teaching others this valuable skill of sewing. Our students have created some beautiful projects that they adore. With our help, they were able to achieve a new skill. And that is worth every struggle we may face.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Our business is an educational training school teaching students ages eight and up how to sew. We provide a wide variety of sewing classes for students at every skill level. Currently, we are hosting students ages 8-16 for our summer sewing classes. These students have designed and created some awesome projects. Our goal is to provide weekly classes for students after school, senior classes for senior citizens, and weekend and evening classes for the working adult. We believe that exploring creative outlets and having a fun place to create is a valuable self-care method. Many students don’t have an opportunity to create, sew and design various projects in public schools. We hope to solve this problem by ensuring a fun and exciting design experience. Our classes are affordable and cover a wide variety of techniques to begin the sewing journey. Ultimately, we hope to encourage a generation of students to learn to sew and create!

Researching and forming valuable relationships with people in the same industry has been a great resource. There is so much valuable knowledge in speaking with others and forming relationships with those in a similar field. Also, gaining information from your local city and county governments helps tremendously with local laws, networking, and marketing. Social media apps such as Wix.com, Capcut, Canva, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Nextdoor have helped with content creation and marketing. Social media has also helped us with other business resources, such as funding, networking events, and obtaining customers.
