Meet Trailblazer Kendra Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Evans.

Kendra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Everyone that knows me knew I was going to Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) for Fashion Design, here in Atlanta, and that I wanted to own a boutique. After graduating high school in 2010, I decided to complete my core classes at a community college then transfer to SCAD after two years. Within my first year of college, I became pregnant with my son. Like most women with children, life changes and pushes you further away from your dreams. I decided to take a semester off from the community college I was attending. A semester ultimately turned into years of being out of school. One day, I asked myself, ‘Kendra, what are you doing with your life?’ At that moment, I felt like a failure. It was also necessary for me to realize my weaknesses and grow from them.

In 2017, I began searching online on how to start a small business. I would go on YouTube every day and search entrepreneurship to see others walking in the path I desperately wanted to be on. I went through several different business ideas before stumbling on a soap making video, of all things, on YouTube. I said ‘hey, I think I can do that! BLoved has been going strong ever since. I chose the name BLoved because of its meaning. Someone who is dearly loved. I aspire to spread love and positivity one soap at a time.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road to travel on. I have had many ups and downs, long sleepless nights, and a lot of tears shed along the way. That’s the life of being an entrepreneur. You are the underdog and you have to fight your way to the top to reach your goals.

To any woman, young and old, aspiring to be an entrepreneur should just go for it! Leave all the doubts and what-ifs at the door and take a huge leap on faith. Believe in yourself like no one else can and dream big!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BLoved – what should we know?
BLoved is a luxury artisan soap business, established in 2017, that specializes in handcrafted soaps, bath salts, body oils, bath bombs, scrubs and more. Our goal is to spread love, uplift and empower men and women one soap at a time!

All of our soaps are handmade and crafted with care. Our soaps are Paraben-free, Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) free, Phthalates free, free from Petrochemicals, dyes, and lakes. We are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
Opportunities that women are well-positioned for are unity, empowerment, and strength. Women can do anything they set their minds to. Nothing is unattainable or impossible. You just have to grind and believe in yourself and your goals.
