Meet Vanessa Munsch of Vanessa Munsch Photography in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Munsch.

Vanessa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always been creative and artistic: from painting to stained glass making or blacksmith classes, I love to try it all. In my twenties, as I started traveling more, photography became a very natural extension of my creativity. Once I had children, my photography became more focused on capturing these fleeting moments of life. I would post my photos on my social media and people started asking me to take photos of their family. I decided to enroll in a photography course at Emory and the rest is history!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Just like for any business, it has been a process. The business of photography is so much more than being creative and taking great photos. There is such a learning curve. I constantly invest in education and try to learn to become more proficient with my editing, website building skills, social media, client care, scheduling, marketing, accounting and everything in between. I wear many hats!

Please tell us about Vanessa Munsch Photography.
I am a family photographer and I specialize in children photography. As a child, I was a dreamer, I have always loved romantic fairy tales along with the big twirly dresses. This is reflected in my portraits. I really enjoy doing styled shoots, it’s a very whimsical take on childhood, capturing the magic of these first few years.

For girls, it often means realistic fairy wings, a fancy gown or maybe knee high socks and a skateboard. For boys it could be them exploring the woods, hanging out in an old car or playing with a boat in a creek. I edit these sessions in a fantasy style that to me sort of captures the innocence of childhood.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
So far, I am pretty happy with the way it has unfolded but I am still fairly new. Maybe ask me again in ten years!
