Noelle shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Noelle, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
The main thing that brings me joy is my Faith. I have experienced ups and downs in my life and career, but my Faith keeps me going.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a Classical Crossover singer from Atlanta, GA. Classical Crossover is a sub-genre of classical music that mixes together opera, Broadway, pop, and religious music with a classical twist.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
This is kind of funny, but as a child, I believed that I could be a pop star. I always knew I wanted to be a singer and I used to think I would be the “Black Britney Spears.” As I grew up and learned more about the music industry, I realized that being a pop star is not the right lane for me. When I discovered Classical Crossover music, I immediately felt at home.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. Actually, in the past few years, I almost gave up a couple of times. In the present day, social media is a big element of having a successful music career. I have tried to keep up with my social media presence, but it’s challenging for me as an introvert. When I post a video that doesn’t get much attention on social media, it’s hard not to take that personally.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think one of the biggest lies in the entertainment industry is the current belief that social media determines a person’s worth. Although social media is valuable for marketing, the number of followers you have does not directly translate to how talented you are. I would rather have fewer followers who really care about me and my music than millions of followers who barely know me.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I would stop worrying about what other people think and just be myself. Most of the time, I feel like I have to have a “perfect” image and that I’m not allowed to be a normal human. I am working on opening up more.
