Ny’Asia Keys on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Ny’Asia Keys shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Ny’Asia, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Over the past year, I’ve been called into leadership in multiple facets of my life. Being a leader had always been somewhat of a scary concept for me – I worried that I wouldn’t be assertive or brave enough. Now, I find myself in many positions of authority; in my community, my personal life, and even my career. I’m learning as I go! I love how leadership has taught me to set boundaries, communicate, and learn from those around me.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Ny’Asia Keys and I’m the CEO of Threaded Muse, a clothing brand centered around crochet and knitted garments. My goal with my brand is to use fiber art to create admirable pieces and designs. I enjoy immersing myself into a variety of creative endeavors, including film, music, and writing. I work a separate job full time, so I am very intentional about what custom pieces I agree to make for my clients.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My grandma has always been one of the most influential people in my life. I learned so much about myself through her early on. She’s a wonderful person and, in my opinion, she’s the epitome of love in human form. I have always worked toward becoming a reflection of her in that way. Through her, I have learned to embrace my compassion and faith. When I feel lost, I use those virtues as a guiding light.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self that I’m proud of her. I don’t think I heard that enough from those around me in my adolescence. I’m proud of myself for working toward becoming the person I am today!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I think that self-improvement is a lifelong project for everyone, and it’s something that I’m deeply committed to. I think there’s always room for improvement growth in how we treat ourselves and others. Sometimes self-improvement requires hard work, and other times it requires patience and rest. We’re all in different places in our journey, and I think that’s what makes it fun!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m creating things that matter to me. Sometimes, it’s creating a garment, or writing a poem, or painting. I see creation as an important form of self expression. It’s a way to release or express feelings or thoughts that would otherwise be bottled up.
