Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriel Conde.
Hi Adriel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I picked up my first mini DV video camera as a Christmas gift in high school. I started with home movies for my family, for our vacations and get-togethers. The magic created by playing back these memories was not lost on me. The camera offers a different perspective of our lived experiences, and often tells a different kind of truth, uncovering something stronger than fact: reflection. I pursued this curiosity into film school, where I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Florida State University’s Film School in 2010. Film and motion picture are one of the best ways to communicate empathy, and our shared experiences of being human. Some of the best stories are about real people, with real experiences. Since my childhood, I have been created stories that affirm identity. From short films to documentaries. I take great pride in my journalistic approach to life.
I have a strong passion for visual storytelling. I love both documentary and narrative filmmaking. My favorite film director is Steven Spielberg, whose flair for the sentimental influences my wedding work, specifically. I have over 12 years of wedding experience and a lifetime of video and film production experience. Weddings are a cultural milestone that connects every family, from every walk of life. From weddings and events, to commercials and film production, my passion has led me to the crossroad of creativity and opportunity, working with others to help achieve what they wish to communicate through the visual arts.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I come from a low-income neighborhood in Miami, FL and my family is not wealthy. With help from the community, friends, and family, I was able to receive the education I needed and establish my own business. Pursuing a creative career has the struggles you would expect; rejection, pinching pennies and living on a budget, and putting yourself out there for the world to judge. But, you learn from your failures and you persevere. Without perseverance, achieving dreams and goals is not realistic.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a videographer for weddings and nonprofits primarily. I have a humanistic approach to creating optimistic and inspiring stories. I have a journalistic style. My wedding work is empathetic, focused on people. I’ve also filmed and edited a documentary about national youth-gang intervention methods to help neighborhoods afflicted with gang violence.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Family vacation trips to universal studios Orlando, and other theme parks. Going on rides and seeing shows based on pop culture and movies. Film discovery was big for me when I was a child. Watching them with family and friends and going to the theater.
