Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyson Pittman Lands.
Hi Alyson, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I got my start in marketing while attending Kennesaw State University’s Coles College of Business, where I earned a degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing. During college, I was an active member of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority and served as Social Chair. That role helped me discover my passion for event planning, networking, promotions, and graphic design.
My first opportunity in the industry was as a Marketing & Promotions Intern with Q99.7 and Cumulus Media. There, I worked alongside teams from The Bert Show and The Adam Bomb Show, attended events and concerts, and gained valuable hands-on experience in promotions and brand engagement. I later interned with Rival Entertainment at Center Stage and continued working with them for several months. Wanting to expand my experience even further, I took on a Public Relations Internship with VividRich HQ.
Through these internships, I built meaningful connections, gained invaluable industry experience, and developed the foundation for my marketing career.
After graduation, I spent several years freelancing, sharpening my skills across multiple areas of marketing, including social media management, organic marketing, content creation, promotional events, email marketing, and more. This experience gave me a well-rounded understanding of the industry and allowed me to work with a variety of clients and brands.
I eventually transitioned into agency life, specializing in both organic and paid media advertising. Five years later, I’m still doing what I love. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with major brands, household names, small businesses, local businesses, and everything in between.
Today, I work full-time at an agency managing client accounts and overseeing digital advertising strategies, while also providing social media marketing and analytics support on the side. Outside of work, I balance my career with my most important role of being a mom to my two sweet boys and a wife to my incredibly supportive husband.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! At first, I definitely thought it would be, but I think I can speak for most of my age group when I say we’ve been hit with a lot of unknowns in our lifetime and especially adult life. Covid brought me my first big layoff and the state of the economy brought me my second layoff. I’ve also seen a lot of drawbacks and cuts in the marketing field, in general, due to mass layoffs, economic factors, AI usage, and more.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work in marketing as a general umbrella. More specifically, digital advertising, and I specialize in paid search and social. I’m known for being a creative, but also being a huge planner. If someone wants something planned, I am definitely the go to.
A lot of people are very specifically data-drive or creative-driven, but I think what sets me apart is being able to fall in the middle and do a bit of both. I am very type-A professionally, but am able to switch gears easily and be a creative.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The industry I am in is already heavily shifting. A lot of companies are heavily relying on AI at the moment to do everything from responding to emails, managing tedious tasks, etc. to creating marketing content. I think the industry is going to lean into this heavily, cut a lot of jobs, rely on the machine, then realize this isn’t what people want. Marketing still needs a human touch and an artist or creative to make content.
