Rising Stars: Meet Angel Brame of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Brame.

Hi Angel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Angel The Queen originally grew up in Riverdale, Illinois and began her education at Oakdale Covenant Christian Academy in Chicago. She later studied Women’s Ministries and Communications on campus at Moody Bible Institute in downtown Chicago. Angel has been a travel braider since relocation to Georgia with her daughters Karis, (17) and Zoë (10) where she began to focus on servant leadership in her gifts as an intergenerational visionary, author, and catalyst for intentional mentorship and sisterhood. Her work sits at the intersection of community advocacy, creative expression, and radical empowerment. As the author of the transformative 100+ Reasons Black Women Need Black Women series, Her role as a rising community leader, Royal radio personality and a natural hair specialist, indicates that her writing is not just meant to be read; it is designed to serve as a blueprint for the resilience, unity, and collective growth necessary to sustain the next generation of back women leaders. She believes that the most powerful thing a woman can do is hold space for another.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been several bumps along the road. Everything that could go wrong-did. Everything that could go right- immediately followed. Relocating is not an easy task especially when you know you have so many clients, so many miles away. Many people in my family didn’t even know I’d relocated and some didn’t find out until a buzz was created on social media. I made a decision to take charge of my life, my family and my business. We all desperately needed a change of environment. We each had one backpack and got a one way ticket to Georgia. Excited, but slightly fearful of the new chapter, every experience is reflective of my reasons why black women need community. My girls and I have not only found that, but are committed to creating that everywhere we go, spreading the message of Intergenerational mentorship and moving the mission forward. We are so grateful to be surrounded by a community of women who encourage and inspire us to continue doing the work. Sometimes you don’t get the time to look ready, you take the leap of faith and you’ll suddenly recognize God’s been preparing you for this all along the way. I’m reminded with each booking whether speaking at conferences, retreats or a ladies night, that I once came with emotional baggage, a backpack, two little blacks girls and a vision. The help of therapy, the change of environment, and removing a sense of familiarity, helped me see the global picture God has been showing me all of my life. I began receiving authentic business coaching and mentorship as well as involvement and engagement with supportive churches and businesses in the community who support my vision.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most proud of my daughters Karis (17) and Zoë (10) and their incredible resilience in each transitional phase of our lives. This legacy building that began with my work as an educator of The Beauty of The Braider program at Dixon Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois has developed proven leadership and dedication. Now a published author of the workbook series 100 + Reasons Black Women Need Black Women, my mission is to build a business beyond braiding and begin speaking directly to the hearts of women and girls all across the globe. God gave me this vision at the young age to break the silence amongst mothers and daughters, sisters, aunts and nieces. At the age of 12, I began my entrepreneurial journey. As a “kidpreneur” braiding hair for women and girls in the city of Chicago and surrounding suburbs, I learned early on that Black Women needed Black Women. I had a full clientele by the age of 18 before going to Moody Bible Institute full time. What sets me a part from others is that I double majored in women’s ministry studies and media communications at Moody Bible Institute. I’d gotten pregnant with my now Senior in high school, in my junior year of college and took my daughter Karis to school with me. I knew I was going to answer the call towards something greater than empowerment and motivation. As a transformative leader, advocate for women and girls, and a voice you may hear across metro Atlanta airwaves on 105.5 The King FM AM 1430 & AM 1010. I’m so grateful to be able to offer one on one coaching in my city, virtually over zoom, or right at home with my girls, building my legacy.
