Rising Stars: Meet Bonita Hunter of Dallas, GA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonita Hunter.

Hi Bonita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My grandmother taught me how to sew when I was 11 years old, which has been many many moons ago..lol. As a former nurse of 35+ years, I have been an advocate, supporter and comforter to loved ones ,friends and patients, guiding them through joyous times and times of loss and great sorrow. Then life changed for me.I received the news of becoming a first-time grandmother, the same week I was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm, (which I have recovered from 100%) Moving forward, birth of my first grandson really put things into perspective on how precious and short life can be. This is when the idea came to me to make a memory bear using his cherished baby clothes ,with his name and date of birth embroidered on its feet. I wanted him to have a special keepsake from his grandma. Once family and friends saw my beautiful keepsakes, the orders started rolling in. This is how “Your Forever Treasure” got started. I repurpose your sentimental clothing from any special moments in your life and create a one of a kind keepsake. They are not just bears blankets and pillows. It’s much more than that. They also provide grief support to those dealing with the loss of a loved one and those managing anxiety and depression. They remind moms of their baby first outgrown outfit ,their son‘s graduation, baby shower‘s ,girls trips, weddings family reunions and more. They also bring comfort to those in uniform as well as those they’ve left behind awaiting their safe return.Memory Bears and Keepsakes have meaning ,they are a place holder in our hearts , holding special moments, joyous times and the love we have for others. My legacy is to keep memories alive one keepsakes at a time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I cant say it’s been smooth road owning my own business but It’s like any other road we travel. There’s gonna be stones rocks, potholes ditches, and construction. I continue to tell myself I’m under on going construction and I will see this through till the end, Some of my struggles along the way have been bookkeeping, promoting my business and social media which has been a huge learning curve for me but I have managed navagate TikTok, Instagram and Facebook on a regular basis. I find it all exciting while enjoying journey.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a former nurse of 35+ years. I have experience in all areas of nursing and became a caregiver at the age of six. I’ve taken care of my grandparents, aunt uncles neighbors, friends, and acquaintances. I specialize in caring for others. I’m most proud of my parents for laying the foundation for me to stand on and being able deal with any and everything life throws my way. What sets me apart from others ,I always look at the positive and not the negative I look at the glass as being half full not half empty. i’m known for being calm and rational doing times of trouble. We have one life to live, and I want to live it to the fullest.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5 to 10 I see my business continuing to thrive as we all went lasting memories of loved ones, family, and friends
