Hi Jakia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Jakia Robinson, I am a native of Inkster, Michigan, embarked on my journey in the beauty industry after a five-year tenure at Delta Airlines. In 2017, I discovered my passion for entrepreneurship and founded Justnailed, initially working out of a barbershop. My dedication and skill soon led me to open my own suite, where I continued to serve the metro Detroit area with my expertise.

By June 2022, I expanded my business and opened All Things Nailed, a beauty salon suite located in Livonia, MI. With certifications in natural nail care, Russian manicure, and a wide range of gel enhancements, I have become a respected name in the industry.

In January 2024, I relocated to Atlanta, GA, where I now provide nail services to clients across both northern and southern regions. My work goes beyond mere aesthetics; it is a thriving business, a livelihood, and an opportunity to empower women globally by sharing my knowledge and skills in beauty.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road? Absolutely not, I have faced many challenges. Here are a few , Getting funding for projects. Finding the perfect clientele for me. Getting over the hump of getting comfortable in front of and behind the camera for content. Properly managing my time for social media. Most recently, finding new clients out in Atlanta since my recent move. Finding a space that’s professional and comfortable for both my clients and myself. Finding the right products for my clients. That’s just to name a few.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a premium Gel nail specialist. I offer quality gels that last anywhere from 4-6 weeks. These gels allow you to grow out your natural nails while retaining your natural nail length and health. I am most proud of the reputation I have built for myself. Over the last 7 years I have been very intentional on keeping a clean reputation for nails and business all together. I am a very informed nail tech and that allows me to confidently provide the service while educating my clients and other nail techs all over the world. Offering digital classes to aspiring nail techs so they can also be successful in the nail industry.

As a premium gel nail specialist,there are several key qualities that set me apart from others in the field:
Mastery of Technique: My ability to flawlessly apply gel nails with precision, ensuring longevity, smoothness, and a perfect finish, is essential. This includes expertise in shaping, curing, and removing gel nails without damaging the natural nail.

Use of High-Quality Products: Premium gel specialists use only the best products, including top-tier gels, base and top coats, and nail prep solutions. This ensures better results and maintains the health of clients’ natural nails.

Personalized Client Experience: Offering tailored services to each client based on their nail type, lifestyle, and preferences sets you apart. This includes providing detailed consultations, custom color mixes, and unique nail art that reflects the client’s personality.

Hygiene and Safety Standards: Adhering to the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation is crucial. This includes using sterilized tools, ensuring a clean workspace, and following safety protocols to protect both clients and yourself.

Trend Awareness and Creativity: Being up-to-date with the latest nail trends, techniques, and products allows me to offer cutting-edge designs. My creativity in nail art, combined with technical expertise, positions me as a trendsetter in the industry.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you are just starting in the nail industry my biggest advice would be to NICHE DOWN. I understand we want to chase the money and make the most, but learn from me. When you niche down you become an expert at that one thing and people look to you for it. It allows you to become very educated, spend less time in the shop because of your expertise and there will be a HIGH demand for your services, which in turn will allow you to charge more while doing less.

Keeping a clean name is also very important. We are not perfect so sometimes we will make mistakes and even inconvenience people at times, but it’s imperative that you correct your mistakes. Don’t shy away from them, own them, and remain professional at all times. A good name will take you places quicker than your skills.
Last but not least, if you have that burning sensation in your heart that just won’t go away for nails, Pursue it. You can do it. With hard work, dedication and God, there’s nothing you can’t do. You got this!
