Rising Stars: Meet Janika Matthews of Pynkivy Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janika Matthews.

Hi Janika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! My name is Janika Matthews and I am a multi creative artist based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin . I’ve always had an interest in anything that allowed me to express myself in the form of art. I started off as a sketcher and painter in elementary school up until now. I have been producing music for 8 years and doing photography and videography going on 3 years. Since a child I’ve been into music and film. As I got older I started to explore more with photography and videography by taking pictures of friends and family as well as shooting cinematic reels for Instagram. As time went on people really started to enjoy my work and told me that I should invest in a camera. Since then I’ve been creating cinematic pieces for not only myself but also upscale businesses. I am now a published photographer with a following that loves my work! I am mostly known now as wolf Ivy, which is my artist name. Whenever I enter an event or end up on the team for an event, I’m greeted as such. I’ve put in a ton of work to get my name out there and nothing feels better than seeing the progress and love.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is ever easy when you’re chasing your dreams and goals. The beginning is usually the hardest because you have to prove to yourself and others that you’re capable of being everything you believe in. There were a multitude of obstacles in my way when I first started my media business. I worked long hours at the court house and after every shift I’d either travel to Chicago for free work to promote myself or go home and hop on my computer todo research for marketing and email potential clients. I went through a lot of failed SD cards, lost work, moments of discouragement, and even the thought of giving up. Most people never make it past the first chapter but you have to push through to get what you really want,

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an artist I put a lot of effort and thought into my projects. It will always be art first and money second. If I’m not happy with the outcome of my work then the money means absolutely nothing and I think that’s what makes my work stand out from the others. The eye that I have for detail and storytelling will forever set me apart from the rest.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am an absolute risk taker when it comes down to chasing my dreams. The biggest risk I took was quitting my 9-5 and holding myself accountable to make entrepreneurship work! Knowing that the pressure was on me I had no choice but to go as hard as possible. Once I started to get paid my worth and got a taste of not having to hit the snooze alarm in the morning, I knew that I was made for this. In my opinion I say take the risk. You only live once and if you live a fearful life you’ll never live at all,
