Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Jayde Robinson.
Hi Kim Jayde, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a proud Zimbabwean woman, grew up in a city called Bulawayo with traditional, old school values – but also traditional in the careers that women could go into.
I came to South Africa to get my Honours Degree in Social work and psychology, and was modelling part time. After graduating, I launched my career through modelling and digital content (my broke girls blog to looking cute.)
In 2016 I caught the attention of Viacom via Instagram and became the face of MTV Africa while building my influence behind the scenes across marketing and production.
In 2019 I founded KJ Productions PTY Ltd, and created Season one of of Kickin’ It With Kim Jayde in 2019. I own my creative IP, host cultural conversations through a sneaker lens, and have since collaborated with brands like Revlon, Hennessy x NBA, and even Barbie!
I’ve been named a Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 honoree and a Republic Africa cover star. Today I am an International Speaker, Creative Director, and bold voice in African entrepreneurship and media.
As of 25 May 2026 – Season thee of Kickin it with Kim Jayde will go from YouTube to mainstream tv on Bravo TV Africa – airing in 52 African countries on DSTV Africa.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My career has been full of incredible wins, but the sacrifice you make when you leave your home country – to pursue a career in a more established industry like South Africa – is you leave home, friends and family.
All I ever knew was my life in Zimbabwe so starting again in another country has had a lot of moments of true loneliness. You miss all the big moments in your family & friends lives – birthdays, graduations, Sunday lunches etc
That’s been the hardest part for sure.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known as a multi-award winning tv host and content creator.
However I am so much more – I have run my own production house for seven years where I hire young, African creatives to shoot, edit and help me tell stories. I’m very proud of that.
I am a business woman that employs other young creatives!
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Incredibly shy – a serious introvert!
My brother and older sister were both so loud, confident, good looking! I was nine of the above! I was scrawny, very awkward looking, really crooked teeth, and zero confidence!
Even as a child, I have always been drawn towards the arts and creativity! Amnesty international club, where we would learn public speaking, debate, I loved painting! It all makes sense in hindsight- I’ve always been a creative!
