Today we’d like to introduce you to Liberti Dai’lon.
Hi Liberti, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up surrounded by talent. Creativity was always around me — music, performing, entertainment. It felt natural to dream big from a young age. At just 7 years old, my sister and I auditioned for The X Factor, and even though I was still so young, that experience opened my eyes to the world of performing and showed me how much I loved being on stage.
At 9 years old, I started dancing with absolutely no prior training. I didn’t grow up in studios or competition teams. I was completely self-taught in the beginning. Around that same age, Zendaya became one of my biggest inspirations. Watching her dance, perform, and confidently be herself made me believe I could do the same one day.
In middle school, I discovered Matt Steffanina and the world of K-pop, and that completely changed everything for me. I became obsessed with learning choreography from YouTube videos. Since I didn’t have formal training, I would literally dance in front of a wall for hours, using it as a way to train myself and memorize choreography. That became my practice space, my classroom, and my way of building discipline.
At 15 years old, I started putting myself out there more seriously. I auditioned for the ATLA dance team and also auditioned for one of Matt Steffanina’s concept videos and passed both auditions. Those moments gave me confidence and showed me that all the hours I spent teaching myself were actually paying off.
I later attended and graduated from Martha Ellen Stilwell School of the Arts in 2020, where I got to expand my performance experience even more. During that time, I performed in a theater showcase as a Doo-Wop girl in Little Shop of Horrors, which helped me grow not only as a dancer but also as a performer overall.
By 2023, I decided to take dance more seriously and auditioned for a dance company where I began performing more consistently. In 2024, I left the program and started attending classes mainly to meet new people and reconnect with the community, not realizing how much that decision would change my path.
Then 2025 became a turning point for me. I started training seriously at Xcel Dance Studio multiple days a week, attending pop-up classes at different studios, introducing myself to the dance community, and fully investing in my growth. The more I trained and connected with people, the more opportunities started finding me. I began getting reached out to for paid gigs, sessions, performances, and music videos. I was even asked to start teaching at a studio, which was something younger me could’ve only dreamed of.
In 2026, I decided to take things even further by building my own brand. I started teaching my own sold-out pop-up classes at studios while also teaching weekly at my home studio. At the same time, I’ve continued balancing performances, bookings, community, personal life, creative projects, and everything that comes with pursuing dance professionally.
Looking back, it’s crazy to think that it all started with a little girl dancing in front of a wall, learning choreography from YouTube videos with no formal training, just passion, consistency, and a dream. Every step of my journey has shaped me into the artist, choreographer, and creative I continue becoming today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My dance journey has been a smooth road because every experience naturally led me closer to my purpose.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a hip-hop choreographer, advanced dancer, and creative director, I take pride in the journey I’ve built through passion, consistency, and originality. Over the years, I’ve grown not only as a performer and teacher, but also as a creative who brings vision, storytelling, and authenticity into every project and class experience. One of the things that helps me stand out is my ability to remain original while creating work that feels both impactful and genuine to who I am. My multicultural background influences my creativity, movement, and connection with people, allowing me to bring different inspirations and perspectives into my artistry. Beyond the accomplishments, performances, and opportunities, I’m most proud of the supportive community and meaningful relationships I’ve gained throughout my journey, along with creating spaces where people feel inspired, welcomed, and confident through dance.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is staying true to yourself and this is in fact what I tell my students in classes I teach. The dance community can be tough but as long as you’re true to your OWN personal craft, that is actually what can get you places.
