Rising Stars: Meet Malik Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malik Evans.

Hi Malik, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a country boy born and raised in Georgia. I have a huge family so life was nice growing up. I’m the 12th grandchild, accompanied by 15 or so great-grandchildren, too many to count. That’s my life. My children, family, friends… all the people who I cherish most.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t know if anybody has a smooth road. The only thing you can do about life is to take it one day at a time and put your best foot forward—even when you fall short. Camera equipment is expensive people. The struggle is real.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a photographer/videographer. I’ve been doing photography for two years now, with a background in the video world as well, stemming back to high school where I took Broadcast/Video Production taught by Mrs. Gillespie. I only mention her because I know that class and her teaching was the foundation of everything that I’ve done and will do creatively. Along with these, I worked in production for two years as a PA on commercials in the Atlanta area. All of this has set me up to be where I am now. I’m discovering new things every day when it comes to the art of photography/videography. I feel that it’s imperative for any photographer/videographer to discover what it is that they love about the art or what type of art it is that they even love. I now have a partnership developing, so that is honestly just the first step in the direction that I’d like to go in terms of what is aesthetically pleasing to me. This is where I am at this point in my ‘career’ if you will.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I won Most Talkative in 8th grade which says a lot in itself… I was on homecoming and prom court in high school. I take pride in those two even if I didn’t win, so that pretty much sums it up.
